central.PA.bass Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 A bunch of guys in my club are older gentleman and everyone of them swears by the Spiders.. i believe most of them use the ones made by Cabin Creek. Do any of you guys use spiders? if so how do you present them and what colors produce the best? A lot of these guys that is all they use and usually do very well in our tournaments. Quote
MFBAB Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 There's a thread going in the tackle forum about this too, I plan to start using them some this year. I will be putting them on Shaky Heads and FB jigs probably, I think some T-rig them as well. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted February 11, 2011 Author Posted February 11, 2011 oops i never go in there.. thanks for the heads up! Quote
Tuckman Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I think everyone from PA uses Cabin Creek everything. lol. I went to school down there for a few years and thats all my buddies would throw. I use GYCB myself Quote

I am with you thought.. i like GYCB a lot.. I'm really excited to try out the new Kinami D-bug this year though.. especially when it was designed by a fellow PA guy... Dave Lefebre! Quote
JKarbo214 Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Are these the spiders that you are referring to? Quote
Brandon K. Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Kietech little spider is a great jig. unbelievably tough, though still has great action. I've caught good limits of small mouth on them in the Ohio. Quote
backwater4 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Any spiders/hulas work great for smallies. The Cabin Creeks and Yammies are my favorite. 1/4 football head, no weedguard. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 The GYB Hula Grub is a must have. 4 inch and 5 inch. At least one guy on the forum swears by the 6 inch. The color depends on what you have for crawfish in your area. Out here in Washington the 176 color rules. I like 1/4and 3/8 football heads with exposed hooks. I will have to check that Cabin Creek brand. Good tip. Quote

You didn't even need to mention Yamamoto, just the number. After one night when my partner and I had whacked a big old limit, all the guys wanted to know what we caught them on. "409!" my partner Tony announced, "Really cleaned up on them." The next week, there must have been a half-dozen guys come over to our boat to explain to us that there was NO number 409 other than a cleaning product. The owner of the local baitshop laughed almost as hard as we did! ;D Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 What memories. That's funny. There's a tube color I like from a west coast outlet called buzzard snot. It's another hot deal. It mimics the early spring color of dads in the Columbia. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 27, 2011 Global Moderator Posted February 27, 2011 I use them on football jigs for smallmouth and have had really good luck texas rigging them for largemouth also. Anywhere there is rocks and craws they seem to eat them really well. I use the Yum ones a lot but they all work. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted March 13, 2011 Author Posted March 13, 2011 I bought some from Conquistador Tackle last year and like the looks of them.. I got them for a good price off of ebay.. anyone use them? Quote
NateFollmer Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I use Hula and dual tail grubs for smallies when the bite gets real tough. They work just about all the time, but they really excel when it's tough. Those spiders look interesting, I'll have to check them out! Quote
Crankenstein_MI Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 I personally like to use yamamoto series 11 skirts and make my own color combos with twin-tail grubs. This way, it is easy to adjust colors without retying or buying a bunch of jigs. I like the action the plastic skirts have in the water as well. I have paired these skirts with finesse jigs, pitching jigs, big 3/4 oz football jigs, little football jigs, etc. You can make your own cool color combos. I have used these skirts a lot with flappin hogs as well to offer a big profile bait in stained water. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 Just when I think I didn't need anymore baits.....Looks like I'm going to have to order a few of these now.I wish I knew about these before... Quote
Super User J Francho Posted March 17, 2011 Super User Posted March 17, 2011 Three words you'll rarely see on the interwebz: Canyon Plastics Kietech :-X Quote
georgiaken Posted March 21, 2011 Posted March 21, 2011 I use the Cabin Creeks and they do quite well here. I talked to the owner for about an hour last year and he said he does the most business on the spiders in PA...so, I guess everyone was right about people here loving them! Quote
Aluma-Bass Posted March 22, 2011 Posted March 22, 2011 i fish the yamamotos twin tail hula grubs with the skirt...i lovem! Quote
boystcroix Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 I love Cabin Creek salty spiders, I usually use pumpkin seed or watermelon with the different colored flakes ( i'll have to look to remember the color) fished on the spider jig head. I fish the West Branch of the Susquehanna mostly and there are a ton of old logging cribs in it. I usually drift the jig with the current past the cribs , kind of like fishing live bait in a small trout stream. The smallies here love em! Quote
3dees Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 football head jigs and Chompers 4" double tailed skirted craws in shades of pumpkin os watermelon. Bass Pro used to sell 3" skirted craws and I had a load of them. got about a dozen left and can't find the 3" ers anymore. Quote
progressivefishing Posted May 26, 2011 Posted May 26, 2011 I always use the Gary Yamamoto Hula grubs. The only problem is the stupid smallies think its a real craw and eat the thing... one time I came into a weigh in with 3 fish with Jigs in there bellies and had to notify the tournament director of this so they did not think I was cheating. I hate to give away this tip but I will... I always fish my baits with football jigs, and I have used many brands. However if you want the absulate best jig, its the Jim Moynaghs jig. http://www.allterraintackle.com/products/rockjig.html hands down amazing jig! I fish a lot of heavy rock areas and this jig almost ALWAYS comes out. Just get above it and give it a pull and it comes right out. The hook ups are much better than any jig. The price is a bit high, but you never lose this jig so its worth it. Hope this helps. Quote
