I have been doing pretty well catching smallmouth out at Melvern Lake in Kansas. I seem to catch them all at once or none at all. I have used everything from a jig, spinnerbait, tube, and crankbait. Mostly off the rocks near the marina and the dam. Any suggestions for my June 13th fishing trip?

Usually by then you're pretty much looking at deeper water on the points and just a little way into the coves. Never have been able to get a deep crankbait bite out there but it's not one of my strengths either. I catch most of my fish on shakeyheads or football jigs but I'm sure C-rigging or fishing a tube on a jighead or dropshotting would work then also. I also have another technique that has worked really well down there if you want to PM me for details. It doesn't seem like much but it's caught fish for me when nothing else does!

Melvern is a good numbers lake but we've got to get to Milford this spring. It has the numbers and the big fish. Both of the 5lb smallies I've caught in Kansas were out of Milford. I've had some great days for numbers on Milford also.

Thanks. Weighed 1&3/4#, didn't measure length. Trying to get back on the water to look for more.

Melvern was hot on Tuesday! Went there with a friend and caught a bunch of fish and several different species of fish. Most of them were caught on jerkbaits with the exception of a few that ate plastics. This was one of my biggest of the day that I caught on a jerkbait.

My friend had big fish of the day with a 3lb 3oz smallie on a jerkbait I loaned him <_< .

Some more of our smallmouth.

Weather was great and so was the fishing! Just wish the lake was a little bit closer!

Looks like you guys did really well! I'm hitting up Melvern this Saturday for the second time. I figure they smallies have already moved up!
