Hey you guys!

Any of yall been starting to fish for smallies on the river lately with this warm weather?

If so, are yall catching or just fishing? I know ive just been fishing.

What kind of structure and baits yall been fishing?

I just recently started fishing for smallies in Ohio, specifically the Little Miami River.

I've just been fishing as well. Between losing baits in rocks and retying, not much action at all.

It's kind of annoying because the spot I fish is flooded from all the snow and I can't get to any good structure from the bank.

I'll probably head back out tomorrow to see if I can get a bite going.

Hopefully I do because I have never caught a smallmouth or even seen one in person.

Below a nuclear power plant discharge, there has been fair to outstanding action most of the winter.  When the Smallies are going good, many typical winter presentations work well...hair jigs, scrounger jigs, even the fly fishermen get some fish on wooly buggers and Clauser minnnow patterns.  When the bite is slow, live minnows are about the only thing that will produce any significant action.

Spots that produce are just what you'd expect...slower water with a little depth.

Went today, no bass but caught a 22 pound musky. Water temps still pretty low to do very well yet.

Very nice!

What part of the river are you fishing?  Im in Blacksburg right now.  Went out on Claytor Lake saturday morning and couldnt catch a thing

I've went several times to Bisset Park here in Radford and twice to Peppers Ferry Bridge. It's been mostly fishing for me too although one day last week I caught two little Smallies at Peppers Ferry. I believe it was just luck more than anything that day.
