AZfishin Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Caught last weekend while on vacation right in downtown Chicago on a dropshot. Great trip, a non-resident fishing license only 20 bucks for 10 days. Awesome trip... Quote
Uncle Leo Posted October 20, 2010 Posted October 20, 2010 Looks like this one came out of the Chicago River based on the back drop. The Goby's seem to have really increased the size of these in Lake Michigan, good to see bigger ones making their way into the river. Nice smallie!!!!!!! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted October 20, 2010 Super User Posted October 20, 2010 Nice smallie! Got to love that background. Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted October 20, 2010 Super User Posted October 20, 2010 WTG ~ Nice "Urban" Smallie ! Looks like a shot from "City Limits". A-Jay Quote
pitchin fool Posted October 21, 2010 Posted October 21, 2010 That's one loooong fish. Did you get a measure on her? Quote
fishermantony Posted October 22, 2010 Posted October 22, 2010 Nice!!! I'm originally from about 10 miles from down town Chicago and have been constantly thinking about fishing for smallies on lake Michigan and the Chicago river when I go back some day. You have officially enhanced my excitement about that trip!! Beauty! Congrats! Quote
Super User slonezp Posted October 23, 2010 Super User Posted October 23, 2010 Nice fish. It's a shame the "city" doesn't make it easier for us fisherman to fish, especially since they had B.A.S.S. here years ago. Lake Michigan is an incredible fishery. The north branch of the Chicago River has a good population of LM bass and crappies but you do get an ocassional brown bass and even salmon that have made it thru the locks. If you're fortunate enough to fish by boat, smallie fishing in the harbors and around the breakwalls can at times be incredible. 2 1/2lb average. 3s and 4s are common and chicagoland waters do give up some 5s an 6s every year. Although evasive, the zebra mussels and gobies have brought some life to the bass fishing, but they have been detrimental to the smelt fishery which has affected the salmon fishery. Enough about salmon this is a bass forum . Anyway, beautiful bass. City Limits??? don't think "Ike" caught a fish over 12" when he fished Chi-Town Quote
fishermantony Posted October 23, 2010 Posted October 23, 2010 Yea, they had the 2000 Bass Master Classic on Lake Michigan in downtown. Woo Daves won that one. I didn't see the city limits from Chicago but I remember a clip from it where I believe Ike was on the river and had a nice smallie, maybe close to 3lbs, but I could be mistaken as well. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 4, 2010 Super User Posted November 4, 2010 Nah, the fish is too big! NICE FISH! Quote
DWG1984 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I love fishing in the city, i work right off the river and just a couple blocks east of the lake. I try to get out there a least once a week, it's definitly becoming a much more productive smallmouth fishery. The next illinois smallmouth record will most likly come from the lake, Quote
