gotarheelz14 Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 Hey all. I live in NC so I decided to fish the New River which according to many websites, is one of the best smallmouth rivers in the country. I ended up fishing the South Fork of the New. While I did catch one smallie and 5 redeye bass (both new species to me), I was a little dissapointed. I did not get my smallie fix! Not catching many smallies did have to do with my inexperience in catching them, but when I go back to the river, I want to be sure that I catch it in its best spot. I have been told that where the two forks meet and up is probably one of the best places to fish it. But, if you guys know any good stretches on it or have personally fished it, I would love to hear your opinions. I should also mention that though I live in NC I do not mind driving up to VA or even WV. It's not too far away of a drive if I can catch a ton of Smallies! Quote
Gorgebassman Posted July 17, 2010 Posted July 17, 2010 To be honest I know nothing about that particular river the fact is that anywhere two forks converge is in most cases one of the best places to fish. Fish will hangout on the point darting in and out of the current catching food that is floating by them. Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted July 17, 2010 Author Posted July 17, 2010 Thanks for that tip! I might have to make my trip a little closer to the confluence. Carlos Quote
