How are they this time of year?

I am headed out tomorrow maybe catch them in prespawn, water temperatures are between 59-62. Gonna go out of Irondequoit Bay and try some water in 8-12ft.

This is really my first time trying lake Ontario for smallmouth, probably my first real trip where I will go look for them so we'll see if I have any luck.

If this fails I'll just head back to the bay and go after some LMB.

I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Surface temps on the lake were 65.  In the bay, 70.  bay is post spawn.  Didn't find too much in the lake, try 20-30' first.  A few fish in shallow, but not the hoards yet that I was hoping for, given the temps.

Alright tried the lake for about 5 minutes, my boat isnt the best in any waves over a foot so we headed back into the bay and just beat the bank. Maybe when it is a bit calmer I can go search for some stuff to fish

I'm going on Wed any suggestions? Iron Sodus? Anything going on in the big lake seems like the dead sea last few years

Things shut down Sunday afternoon real quick, after the cold front moved in. By tomorrow, three straight days of breezy, sunny weather, and I bet you find biters on any of the bays - take your pick.

As far as the lake goes, most spots from years gone are gone. You have to go deep, read electronics, really map out a piece of structure to get a mental picture of what is going, in relation to wind, current, baitfish, etc. I'll admit, I've had limited access to the big lake the past two seasons, but the fish are out there. For me, its boom or bust, literally. You gotta pay your dues rockin' and rollin', though.

I am going to be headed out to port bay this weekend to look for some smallies. My father has been having luck with largemouth just off the dock, he'll fish for twenty minutes and bring in 3-4 fish.

If the weather holds and my circuit boat arrives for my trolling motor I'll be out there.

If I can't get the tm working I might try the big O and see if I can't get on a good drift.

If I was open either day, I'd be in.  I've clinics Saturday at the ADK at Mendon Ponds, and Flower City is fishing Fairhaven opening day.  Good luck at Keuka!

Someone should hit Tuckman up on his generous offer.  Two great places to fish.

J Francho,

I also have the 18th off from work to practice on Keuka if your interested.

I recently transplanted to Rochester from the Watkins Glen area so I am looking for some new fishing partners in the area. I fish open tournaments  about every wknd from the opener up until bow season.

That Friday is gonna be nuts for me.  I'm taking a 1/2 day, running to Fairhaven, do a little spot checking for Saturday's TX, then I've got some family stuff in the evening.

We'll hook up soon.

Hey guys, I'm from Rochester and am looking to join up with someone who has a boat. Lately I've been fishing in Mendon, and have caught some nice largemouth. If anyone needs a partner, let me know. Thanks!
