ksdog Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 This coming weekend I will be fishing a lake where "the spawn should be in full swing", a quote from the fish biologist. Please advise on locations, time of day, lures, etc. Quote
rookiesmallmouther Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 not sure i would go all day and use tubes and fish somewhat close to shore. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 14, 2010 Super User Posted April 14, 2010 The fish will most likely be bedding on gravel bars, sunken islands and humps. Try to identify the structure and fish around it, not on the structure. Not all smallmouth spawn at the same time. I would focus on those fish staging, preparing to bed. Specific lures would include Fat Ika shallow, tubes deep; lizard C-rigged or on a split shot; Wiggle Warts; Bandit 200 and your favorite jerkbait. I face the same situation this weekend. I have not fished the Rapala Shad Rap or spinnerbaits yet, but plan to add them to the mix. Local guides have suggested focusing on numbers, not size right now. We'll see. Good luck! 8-) Quote
ksdog Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 RW these happen to be Dale Hollow strain smallies that were stocked in this particular Kansas lake. I have not fished this lake for smallies, but am excited to give it a try. Quote
