CWeb Canada Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 I like drop shotting with Gulp in Watermelon Pearl or Emerald shiner. Rig a Chigger Craw in a Pumpkin or Motor Oil type colour just as though you were flipping it but drag it (don't jig it, just inch it along the bottom) as painfully slow as possible along the bottom. Any weight you feel.....set the hook and get'er done!!! Hope this helps. CWeb Quote
SimonDM17 Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Had some luck recently with a 4" Yum craw papi on a 1/8 oz jighead with a 1/0 ewg hook, very lightly texposed. Although I would have gone with a 3/16oz if i'd had one with me. worked with the chigger craws too, i just liked the smaller profile/faster action of the craw papi. Quote

Super User iceintheveins Posted September 16, 2009 Super User Posted September 16, 2009 Any skirted double tail grub on a jighead of at least 3/8 of an ounce. It's the ticket for smallies on deep rock reefs. Quote
simplejoe Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 I've been catching them on tubes, EVO jigs and Here's one for you guys to try in your neck of the woods, I rig on a Rapala X-Rap then about 12-15 inches in from the lure put a splitshot on it so it will go down to the bottom. The weight will ride the bottom while the X-Rap is a foot or so off the bottom. Smallies can't stand it and they gotta bite. joe Quote
CWeb Canada Posted September 21, 2009 Posted September 21, 2009 simplejoe, thanks for the post. It sounds like a drop shot for jerk baits. I like the idea and will have to give it a try! CWeb Quote

CWeb No Problem, That little trick came from me being bored on the boat without any success from anything I was throwing, so I decided to try that and was catching smallies a short time after. Quote
Volman482 Posted September 24, 2009 Posted September 24, 2009 Silver buddy, buddy!!!!! 1/8-1/4 brown hair jig with 101 brown pork trailer. 1/4-3/8 oz creepy crawler. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 24, 2009 Super User Posted September 24, 2009 This will sound nuts....Sammy. Seriously, I get more smallmouth bites working topwater over very deep water (45-70'). Action can be incredible. But if we're talking deep running lures, tubes, drop shot finesse plastics, jig, shorty spoons all produce well too. Quote
junebugmn Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 I like to use a 3/16 bullet weight a 6inch chomper's finesse worm or any scented worm of choice and a size 1 tru-turn worm hook, and just drag it on bottom with 6lb p-line flouroline. junebugmn Quote
Smallmouth Bass49 Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 deep swimming bomber or Berkley Powerbait purple ribbed worm Quote
A-Rob Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 I had some luck with using a c-rig, with a Yum craw papi texas rigged on the end of it. Deep crankbait as well. I think I was mainly using a Strike King 4 or 5 crank. I was using sexy shad, but I think for the smallies I will do better with more chartreuse, so I got some new ones. Quote

I don't know what made me think it, but I did it with a smaller x-rap. Surprisingly, I dropped it down around 15' and pulled up 3 beauty Walleye on 3 casts!! Nuts, it works great. Quote
