Hornytoad 10 Posted January 1, 2010 Posted January 1, 2010 I'm looking for a good beginner float n fly rod (preferably fifty dollars or less) if you have any suggestions help me out. Quote
Super User Crestliner2008 Posted January 2, 2010 Super User Posted January 2, 2010 BPS has one of their "Micro-Lite" rods designated for Float N' Fly fishing. You may want to give that one a shot. Not a bad price either. Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 2, 2010 Super User Posted January 2, 2010 I have the 9'6" Microlite and it serves its purpose beautifully. It is definitely not light, or sensitive. But you dont need sensitive for a fnf and i can deal with the weight. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted January 2, 2010 Super User Posted January 2, 2010 I use the BPS 8.5' microlites for FnF. They have worked fine for over 5 years and don't make me feel bad when they are in the bottom of the rod locker. Quote
RandySBreth Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I have all three versions of the BPS Rods, the 8', 8'6", and the 9'6" too. For float and fly, I'd go with the 9'6" model. It is a tad soft for my tastes, but works good to protect light lines. One that has more backbone is the slip-bobber rod in the BPS Walleye line at the bottom of this page:http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_74432_100002005_100000000_100002000_100-2-5 It's telescoping (like a flippin' stick) so it fits most rod lockers. And don't forget the rods meant for Crappie, lot's of those around that would work, too. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/SportingGoods?RequestAction=advisor&RequestData=CA_CategoryExpand&UseSheet=&ResultsPerPage=25&CatPath=All%2BProducts%252F%252F%252F%252FFreshwater%2BFishing%252F%252F%252F%252FRods%2F%2F%2F%2FCrappie&OrigCatPath=All%2BProducts%252F%252F%252F%252FFreshwater%2BFishing%252F%252F%252F%252FRods&AttribSel=&submitted=yes&cmSType=N&viewastext=false&eaport=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.basspro.com%2Fwebapp%2Fwcs%2Fstores%2Fservlet%2F&storeId=10151&catalogId=10001&langId=-1&categoryId=100002004&deptId=100000000&subdeptId=100002000&ea_sortDirection=&ea_sortColumnName=¤tpage=1 http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/index/index-display.jsp?id=cat20238&navAction=jump&navCount=1&cmCat=MainCatcat20166&parentType=category&parentId=cat20166 Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted January 2, 2010 Super User Posted January 2, 2010 I have the 9'6" BPS Microlite as well. It's the only FnF rod I have so I can't compare it to any others... Quote
Ben Lipiec Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 if you have a gander mountain near by, a9' light action advantage steelhead rod is only like $30. Quote
KevO Posted January 7, 2010 Posted January 7, 2010 I've got the 9'6 BPS microlite as well. It does just fine for $50. I was at BPS the other day and saw the G loomis F&F rod. I see no point in having one of those. You don't need a sensitive rod to watch a bobber go down. And it was 1 piece rod. It wouldnt even fit in the bed of my truck. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted January 8, 2010 Posted January 8, 2010 This presentation is really popular with steelhead fishermen. If you plan to do a lot of this style fishing, check out some of the steelhead sites. Quote
