Clyde Posted October 19, 2009 Posted October 19, 2009 Does anyone fish here fish Old Hickory lake for small mouth? I have fished below the dam down the river but thats hard to do by myself below the dam because of the current. So my question is just about the lake itself. Have you found any hotspots. I have mainly always LM fished but I really have an interest in smallmouth fishing. I know with the temps coming down that bite should be heating up. Also even if your not familiar with old hickory lake in TN any pointers on switching from largemouth to smallmouth would be great. Thanks in advance. Clyde Quote
Chris W Posted October 20, 2009 Posted October 20, 2009 I fish Old Hickory all the time, while I have never fished specifically for Smallmouth on that lake anywhere around the Dam is pretty good. I have been fishing O.H. all of my life and up until about 10 years ago you used to never see smallmouth at all. But in the last 10 years they have been showing up. We won big fish in a tournament last year with a smallmouth that went a little over 5lbs. Look for offshore structure down near the dam and you should find some smallmouth. Quote
Gregory25 Posted November 5, 2009 Posted November 5, 2009 Guys, I've fished Old Hickory and never have caught any Smallmouth. Most of the time I will go up to Dale Hollow and fish for those Big Smallies. What kind of baits do you use to catch Smallmouth on Old Hickory? Quote
Clyde Posted November 6, 2009 Author Posted November 6, 2009 Ive caught smallies down below the dam around the island on texas rigged craws and shiners. Quote
ttufishinman Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 ive fished old hickory all my life and have only caught one smallmouth. i caught it on a crankbait during the summer time in the back of a creek it was 17 inches. not many smallmouth are caught in the lake itself but below the dam is good. Mike Iaconelli did an episode on his show city limits fishing and he fished the river and caught some really good smallmouth in the 5 pound range on a shakey head and a jig. Quote
Clyde Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 I have put in at rockland and found some drop offs and things like that so I am gonna try there pretty soon. They are there I just have to find them. Quote
