Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 11, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 11, 2009 No I'm not a professional guide. I moved to Erie PA 17 months ago so I would have plenty of opportunity to fish this area. I'm retired. I bought a new boat 6yrs ago & came up to Presque Isle bay from OH for the first time with a friend. I caught 4 bass over 4lb, one over 5lb & a 6lber my first time here. I realized I had found smallie heaven & decide to move here first chance. Quote
bunkerbstr Posted May 11, 2009 Posted May 11, 2009 Never ceases to amaze me the size of the fish that come out of that lake. Congrats, great catches. Quote
Denea Posted May 14, 2009 Posted May 14, 2009 Dwight, all I can do is druel I gotta get out on Erie this year as I would rather catch one of these hogs than 25-40 smallies... I am keeping my eye out for more of your threads as I know, more are to come. Awesome fish! Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 14, 2009 Author Super User Posted May 14, 2009 Here is another sixer. I should have left my hat on! Quote

Super User Dan: Posted July 5, 2009 Super User Posted July 5, 2009 what a fishery.... You must be a quick learner to be doing so well despite only living in the area for a year and a half. Quote
InLikeFinz Posted July 5, 2009 Posted July 5, 2009 Awesome photos. Those are some great looking smallies!! jason Quote
CWeb Canada Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 That's just stupid!!!! I've seen Dave Mercer catch tanks like that on his show a fair amount on Erie and Ontario but to see Average Joe makes it that much more impressive. Mercer talks about using a Goby Gulp on a Shaky Football Head or drop shotting with Gulp Alive. Congrats on your brutes! CWeb Quote
swimbait Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Are you feeding those fish steroids? Man, those are some nice SM. Quote
Bryce C Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Those fish are amazing!! Congrats on some fine smallies. I recently caught the smallmouth bug after being a pretty dedicated largemouth angler for almost ten years. In my opinion they are one of the most amazing freshwater fish you can pursue, beautiful and man what a fight!! Quote
dauberangler Posted September 11, 2009 Posted September 11, 2009 I have been waiting to make my 1st post and shall i say DAM, you must be loving life. I keep hearing stories about Erie and the hogs that live in them there waters. If there is one thing to do before I die it has to be fishing for smallies at Erie. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted September 11, 2009 Super User Posted September 11, 2009 Dwight, I just ran into this old post today...HOLY COW!! I recently traded down for a smaller boat, and that fish you're holding is roughly the size of my new boat ;D Jokes aside, I'm getting used to seeing your face behind super trophies! Roger Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted September 11, 2009 Author Super User Posted September 11, 2009 Rodger, Funny you should mention trading down. I just traded up yesterday to a 20 footer from my 18 footer. Better to handle Lake Erie on those non perfect days. Here's a 23" from this spring. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted September 12, 2009 Super User Posted September 12, 2009 That bronzeback you're hoisting is obscene! :o Dwight, the best of luck with your new craft...that is terrific! Roger Quote
