I don't think you can go wrong with a crawfish pattern.

Yellow tiger works well.

Various crawfish hues, perch colored hues, firetiger, silver flash, gold flash, chartreuse, and natural baitfish colors as well.

Anything shad patterned, black on top silver on the sides is my go to color... also emerald shiner patterns work well for me.

I can't paint worth a darn, but since you're custom painting, I tried this one on a homemade crank. The smallies seemed to like it.

One person thought Citrus Pirahna was a fitting name.

This guy seemed to like it.

I have most of my success with shad, or crawdad patterns. Hot pink is another good color for smallies.

I fish a lake in central Maine.  When crankbaits are working for me, gold is usually the color of choice!

I have had my best luck with Wiggle Warts in crawfish patterns.

Caught a mess of smallies in less than desirable conditions today with a hot mustard color rapala.  The water was 82* surface and pea soup.  Visibility 6" max.  The chartreuse and browns made it visible and imitated the prey, crayfish.

My hottest crankbait colors so far have been;

Manns baby 1 in crawdad brown(hottest #2)

Bomber FAT A 05 in redcraw(hottest #1)

Bomber FAT A 05 in greencraw

Bomber FAT A 05 in browncraw

Bomber FAT A 05 in chartruese

Bomber FAT A 05 in babybass orange bottom (4 are tied for hottest #3)

Every lure i have tried with an orange bottom has caught fish.

What, no love for the Trap? Must mention the trap...KILLAH smallie crank. Silver and Gold up here are the colorsd I catch on...more gold than silver.

I prefer the silver with blue back.

I'd love to test a home made rig! I read a post yesterday where a guy's best smallie crank this year was a silver purple back. But a lot of people are screaming gold. Maybe gold/purple back?
