I am assuming that the spawn is about over.  Can anyone tell me where I should start to focus on finding smallies.  I mostly want to fish in the Ashtabula Conneaut area.  Any info would be great!!

i know that post-spawn smallmouth usually go back to the "cooler" water preferrably with some sort of current or rocks. if you can locate and area like that fish some jerk baits (dead sticking) or carolina rigged plastics. i have caught quite a few in 4-10 foot of water like this using top water plugs early in the morning till almost 10:30. but again not sure of your lake conditions this will just hopefully give you an option

good luck :)

I have been doing very well in the areas you mentioned. The key has been big rock piles or bait on the more subtle humps. Tubes or

t-rigged *** 4" trick sticks. I have not got the DS to work lately.

By big rock piles, I mean a rise of at least 5' with 12'-18' surrounding. Find some of these and it is possible to take double digits from and next to one pile.

Bait balls on or near the bottom in 14'-20' will also have a few fish around them. Not as many as the big piles of rock but generally a 5 lb er or two.

Hope this helps

EDIT: yes I think the spawn is about done. On some of my shallower rock piles I had success with an x-rap today (before the friggin wind began to howl) and could sometimes see 4 or 5 fish following. I am not thinking that bedding bass would do that but I most certainly could be wrong.
