sage Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Went up to PIB friday for a half day , got there at 4:45 PM and Dad and I caught 52 smallies with 2 over 20". Lots of 16-18" healthy fish. Saturday we fish till 2pm and picked up another 50 smallies also today we took a break from the smallies and went for perch. Im heading back up Sunday with my brother he has never tried it up there. Here's a double , we had quite a few doubles. ;D Quote
flyhatch Posted May 25, 2009 Posted May 25, 2009 I think I saw your boat near the island. we got our fair share but we didnt crush them. how about that perch pack it look like a city of boats . Quote
sage Posted May 25, 2009 Author Posted May 25, 2009 We did not do as well yesterday , we got 40 smallies. We ran out to the perch pack for an hour or so caught 3 so we headed back for smallies. Man was it chilly on the lake yesterday , its hard to believe the temp. difference between home and the lake. Here is my brothers best smallie of the day , his first trip to PIB. Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted May 25, 2009 Super User Posted May 25, 2009 Sounds like you did real good. PIB sure is a great fishery. Quote

sodaksker Posted May 26, 2009 Posted May 26, 2009 Great looking fish. I wish I lived closer to that area. It sounds like you guys are exploding with quality fish. Quote
Steven Ladner Posted May 27, 2009 Posted May 27, 2009 Sounds like a great trip. I can't get 40-50 LM's down here in a single day Quote
bugman Posted May 28, 2009 Posted May 28, 2009 Great post! Did you get them in the bay or the outer shoreline? We have been getting some nice smallies just outside the bay entrance but not the numbers you are getting. Most of our fish hit jerk baits and spinners. Any info on how you are getting the big numbers would be appriciated. Thanks Quote
sage Posted May 28, 2009 Author Posted May 28, 2009 We were fishing the bay , two main patterns X-raps xr6's and xr8's in silver also 3" twist tail grubs with 1/8 oz. jigheads. Best colors were white and also watermellon. Quote
bugman Posted May 30, 2009 Posted May 30, 2009 Thank you for the tip. I'll be fishing the bay this Sunday in a green 16 ' Lund. I'll start the day by drifting the flat off Perry's mounument. If you are going to be there Sunday feel free to pull up and introduce yourself. I always like to meet the fishermen from this forum. Good fishing Quote
sage Posted May 31, 2009 Author Posted May 31, 2009 Goodluck guys , give us a report. I think im taking this weekend off and going for some crappies. Quote
bugman Posted June 3, 2009 Posted June 3, 2009 Fished the bay with my brother-in-law sunday. Between the two of us we landed 21 smallies, 1 largemouth and 4 rockbass. Most caught on green jig & grub as we drifted the flat near the monument. picked up a few pitching soft plastics on beds at the goldmine flat. All smallies were males in the 2# range. Would have liked to landed a few larger females but no takers. Quote
bugman Posted June 9, 2009 Posted June 9, 2009 fished the bay with my dad Monday. We landed 30 Smallies, 6 Largmouths & 7 rock bass. Most have moved off the beds and are in or very near deeper water. Lipless cranks was the bait of choise. Most were in the 2-3# range with one 4.5# smallie. Quote
