huskybass Posted August 20, 2008 Posted August 20, 2008 I just returned from a long weekend trip to Maine to fish with Davebass for 2 1/2 days. We tried a lake that neither of us had ever fished. It was very remote, as the last eight miles to get to the launch were via a dirt road. On Sunday, I think we saw more eagles than people. The scenery was great, as was the food and the company. The Smallmouth fishing was very good, with 44 quality smallmouth coming into the boat over the 2 1/2 days in addition to a bunch of dinks, fallfish, perch, etc. The average smallie was around 3 pounds, with only a handful of the 44 we caught weighing under 2 pounds. Water temps were 67-70, and the conditions were constantly changing. We caught all our fish in 4' to 12' of water on a variety of baits, with spinnerbaits, topwater, soft jerkbaits and spider grubs producing best. I never take the time to take any photos other than fish, so I made it a point to take some scenery photos this time. Here are a few of the mountains that overlook the lake: This is what it looked like while we threw topwater baits in the evening: And here is one of the many eagles we saw. He was a juvenille, that checked us out for about 15 minutes while we fished the shoreline below: It didn't take long to start catching smallmouth, as I caught this one on the second cast of the trip on a sammy 100: Dave got this nice one on a super spook jr.: And a Sammy 115 produced this one in the late afternoon in about 10' of water: Dave caught this one on a 1/2 oz. double willow spinnerbait off a rockpile: Here's the biggest smallmouth of the trip, at 4 pounds 4 ounces, caught on a super fluke off some scattered rock in about 5' of water: And here's Dave with the last bass of the trip. A nice chunk that ate a popper in about 6' of water. All in all a great trip, with real good results for daytime smallmouth fishing in August. MUCH better than anything I could have done here in CT mid summer. Thanks Dave, we will have to do it again sometime. Quote

mostbass Posted August 25, 2008 Posted August 25, 2008 i know that spot, one of my favorite places to fish for smallmouth! Last time i went i didnt have that much luck because i comitted myself to only using my fly rod, but my buddies got some beautiful ones with the heaviest weighing in at 6lbs. Quote
mostbass Posted August 26, 2008 Posted August 26, 2008 unfortunately no, we only brought 1 disposable camera and the photos didnt really turn out. He got him right at sunset in a cove in 8 feet of water directly across from the mountain in the first pic using a yum craw bug. Quote
MaineBassMan Posted March 12, 2009 Posted March 12, 2009 Beautiful pics, you shouldn't be telling everyone how good the fishing is up here ;D. I love living here. Would this lake happen to be in Washington county? Quote
