Guys I adore buzzbaiting but the hookup ratio is about 50%.  I lost a Colorado PIG last night and now I'm dying to learn how to correctly use a trailor hook on my buzzbaits.

I can't seem to find any photos of a buzzer rigged with a trailor hook.  Can anyone explain how to put a trailor hook on the buzzbait, or send me a photo of one?  What kind of hooks do you use with different size buzzbaits?  Do you use just a hook?  Or do you use a trailor too?

I have never had any problems hooking up with a Cavitron Buzz Bait.  But I do differ on colors, I prefer white/chartreuse.

I tried a trailer hook once with a Cavitron and the fish ate both hooks, talk about fun getting them out.  Never again!

Later, :o

trailer hooks can weigh down a buzz bait causing you to have to reel it faster, which can make it a little less effective, stick to cavirton buzzbaits

I put trailer hooks on my Cavitrons and have no trouble, other than having two individual six-pound ladies spear my thumb with the trailer hook on two different occasions.

So take a pliers along and be extra careful when removing the hooks.

Purchase "trailer hooks" that are one size smaller than the Cavitron's hook.

Rig it up using the small plastic tubing, making sure the tubing is not interfering with the Cavitron's barb.

I like to have the trailer hook loose so I put the trailer hook on the Cavitron, with the barb facing the same direction as the Cavitron's hook, and then force the plastic tubing on the Cavitron's hook so that the hook goes through the sides of the tubing.

Works great. Give it a try.  :o

I use trailer hooks on my buzzbaits. Most fish are hooked on the main hook, but there are just enough on the trailer hook only that I wouldn't want to fish without them.

If you look at the Cavitrons business end of the bait-(hook) you will notice when we designed it-we moved the hook back as far as we could. We over sized the hook one size(i love bigger hooks) The reason for this was to try to make the length of the hook protrude as far as we could from the head of the bait or should I say body of the bait without throwing it out of balance- being to heavy on the back end. The reason was  to eliminate the need for a trailer hook. The trailer hook when not applied properly can cause the bait to run untrue(turn to the left or right). It actually acts like a rudder. I know bass hit buzzbaits for several different reasons-food-aggression ect. I could never say that my hook up ratio was 50/50. I would have to say it was in the upper 90 % range  yes upper. BUT. I am no fool. -when I am tournament fishing and the money is on the line-I ADD A SMALLER TAILER HOOK TO THE BAIT- tournaments are won and lost by ounces-One missed fish is all it takes. DO NOT OR RATHER SAY I DO NOT TAKE THAT CHANCE. Just  take a small piece of surgical tubing- snip a small piece-slip the eye of the trailer hook into it-then lubricate the buzzbait hook point and slide it over it. I don't like it freestyling. I like it tight so I can keep the trailer hook in line with the main hook.  When I am fun fishing I do not use a trailer.hook-I do not want the fish to swallow it and get harmed.  see if that helps    www.megastrike.com  or ***s store to order.

Fish can be pretty tough to unhook when they have both the main and trailer hooks. For the last year or so I've been crimping down the barb on the trailer.
