I always put a rattle in my tubes. Does it make a difference?, who knows, but, I always use one or I don't feel confident. Just a little habit I picked up a long time ago. I make my rattles out of McDonalds straws and no. 9 birdshot. I know, I know, but, it works!!!,LOL.

I know a guy who makes them just like that, and hooks me up with them.  Melting the ends is the way to do it, so they are triangular-ish (??) and stick in the tube.  If you weren't in western MD, I'd swear that you're him!  But he's in gaithersburgh.

I use rattles.  It's such a subtle "clicking" sound that I personally don't feel it adds a whole lot.  I ALWAYS add a rattle when I'm not getting bit.  Sometimes it's just the little things that produce bites.

I light a candle and cut up Mc Dee's straws about 3/8s' or so long. I take a pair of tweezers and clamp one end and quickly melt the end while keeping it clamped. I then insert three shots and do the same with the other end. Then I drink another Yuenglings Lager and make more, lol. Have a good one. :)

I make rattles the same way......straws and birdshot.

Funny thing is, I almost never use them. I can only think of one occasion this past year that I actually used them. I don't even use rattles on my bass jigs. Not sure why, maybe I have never noticed the need, I figure if I'm catching fish why change?

Up here those smallies are so aggressive, put a bait within 10' of them and they will find it. I don't see a need for it. The only time I notice a difference is if the rattle comes off my jig if I'm river fishing for them, the bite will really slow down for me until I notice it came off. Put on a new jig and they eat it up again.

I hear you guys. I am not sure if the rattle helps or not. In muddy water I think it does. Actually, its really just one of those fishing quirks I picked up years ago, lol. Good fishing all. :)

Sometimes rattles can actually spook the fish so keep an open mind about using them.

If you are not catching bass with rattles in your tubes then insert a rattle, and vise versa, to change the presentation.

Did you ever think of putting a fresh quater tablet of Alka-Seltzer tablets in your tube?

You can use cotton to keep the Alka-Seltzer in the tube.

The bubbles are a different approach and sound for the fish.

Just a suggestion.  ;)

If they run from my rattle they need to go grow up. This is a funny thread, some fish gin clear water and some do not, them some guys like me get both on the same body of water. This spring my home lake was 23' above norm. and the small jaws were hanging with the large jaws. Super shallow

At my age and with my health, I need the Alka, lol. Like I said, its just a quirk of mine. Its one of many after all these years on the water. Its like my spinnerbaits. I only use Indiana blades, why?, who the heck knows. :)
