I spent my lunch hour down below Wilson Dam today. I had my baitcaster and two lures with me and after wolfing down my lunch I scampered down the rocks to riverside and proceeded to do a little fishin'. After several casts up and across current, I tossed an Xtreme Shad Rap quartered out and downstream. I allowed the current to produce most of the action, twitching and suspending the lure when all H*** broke loose. This smallie jumped clear of the water four times and was determined to stay out in the swift water. I'm trying to work my way down the rocks closer to the water and thinking I might not be able to land this fish but the Good Lord smiled and gave me a small shallow area at the base of the rocks. Now I'm thinking- WHY DIDN'T I BRING MY SCALES AND CAMERA!! I measured with my rod, snapped a pic with the phone and slid it back into the water. Fish measured 21" - no girth measurement. Allowing 14" on girth would put it at slightly over 5 lbs. Image000.jpg

The tailfin was really damaged at the top. Looked like something had chewed a quarter of it away. I've seen better looking fish but the fight was all there. ;D

I wish I could fish during my school breaks. Some days I have a few hours to burn. If only a creek, river was around for me to splash in.

great smallmouth.
