1st I will entroduce myself. My name is Nate and I live in New Brunswick Canada. I have been lurking on this site for a few weeks now and just recently joined. I have been fishing eversince i was a kid but just recently become more than just an occasional fisherman after a buddy and I bought kayaks this spring. After yrs of fishing chain pickeral and brook trout and occasionally hooking a bass, I decided it was time to really target those bronzebacks. Throughout the spring and 1st half of the summer i was using all hardbaits like crankbaits inline spinners etc with limited success! So i went searching online and found this great site. I soon realized that the best way to catch smallies consistantly would be to learn how to use soft plastics. It wasnt long and it sounded like using a senko would be a great soft lure to start with. So I bought a few packs of senkos from a local tackleshop and the rest is history i guess. I have landed almost as many bass in the last 3 outings with a much larger length and wieght per bass than I have the rest of the summer. My next purchase will be a depth finder to help locate structure , but even without the electronics I have been doing very well.

I got to say thanks to this great site and its great members, I have learnt a lot in the past 2 weeks. It really seems like its a place that people care about chatting about fishingt and not a bunch of B$. Thanks again!!!! I hope to have some pictures in a couple days of some of the eastern Canadian smallies we have been catching in our kayaks!!

stay tuned ;)

You can say that again ,I have always had a ton of Senko's but rarely used them until I moved to Virginia and the smallies love them .Can't wait to see some of those Northern Smallies.

welcome aboard and grats on your recent success. :)

a senko is great. have you gotten a chance to experiment with rigging on it? don't forget to try wacky and drop shotting it. have fun with those kayaks - they add another dimension to it, for sure.

thanks everyone...going to get another few senko colors tomorrow and some fat ikas to try on thursday. I outfished my buddy with the 5" senko the other day and he is out giving them a try right now.

Thanks for that great link roadwarrior!

rocketball, you are gonna love those fat ikas. they hit 'em like a mack truck most of the time. great craw looking lure - among other things.

funny thing is - it doesn't matter how ya fish 'em and they'll usually gobble them down. I've rigged them in about every way possible except wacky, but weightless t-rig or t-rig have been my faves.

fretfishman...thanks for the headsup. Today i went to pick up a pack of fat ikas and restock my senkos and I also brought home some hula grubs and kreatures LOL. Going to have fun tomorrow!!! I hope anyway!

I still cant believe how well these GYCB's work!!

Senkos rarely if ever let me down. Have you tried rigging them wacky yet?

I literally boated 62 smallies and 3 catfish yesterday on Senkos only! Watermelon, Pumpkin with green fleck, and Gren and white colors! Just cast and feel for the bite... best Senko bite I've ever had.

WOW, I'm still there with em!

Couldn't agree more on the Senkos. The 3" fat Senko in pumpkin w/black and green (wacky rigged) and the 3" fat Ika in green pumpkin w/black are my favorites. In fact I have not tried any other colors. I will be resupplying in the near future and will try at least one other color. Last week I took my daughter and 7 of my nieces and nephews (ages 5 to 17) fishing on the Chemung River. I took some live bait just in case but we had great success with the Senkos and Fat Ikas. Everyone caught at least one smallmouth bass and a couple were of decent size. I took 3 of the older kids out the next day in a different spot on the river and we caught 3 that were over 2 pounds. The biggest one was on the Fat Ika. The kids were really excited about catching the fish on lures. We also used some live crayfish that worked great. I have yet to have much success with any crayfish lure but I have not tried the Yamamoto craws yet. I have included one picture of my daughter and her smallmouth. Looking forward to going again very soon!

Senkos just flat out are deadly, maybe the best bass lure of all time, at least for clearer water.

I'm new to the forum and pumped about it.  I normally pay attention to our local Chicago Fishing forum, but it doesn't seem to have enough info about how to fish.. more just a "Hey! Look what I caught!" kind of place.

I was wondering what type of Kayak you are using and if you are happy with it, it's features, and if you would get anything different?

Thank you,

W

Welcome, and sorry to hear about your addiction.  There is a twelve step program that starts with tying a jig on the end your line.  :D

I love senko's and their other company Kinami baits, but find that they are a bit soft and tear after 1 or 2 fish - sometimes getting hung up in the weeds tears em which is frustrating! I have found that BPS stick-o-worms are a bit more durable and have great action! I also have found that once they do get a bit torn up you can rig em by the tail the same way and they still catch fish.

My favorite color on the pond I fish is Junebug (purple with green flake). Works like magic!

My 2 cents...
