Bassin_49er Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I dont have much opportunity to fish for SMB as I grew up out west and spend much of my fishing time in TX. But am going to be fishing Sebec Lake Maine this week. Any tips for fishing small mouth this time of year? Thanks for all of your advice. Quote

Brewerbass Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 Sebec has lots of nice smallmouths in it. Big lake with lots of good smallmouth water. I would try topwaters if its calm. The usual plastics will also work-senkos, grubs, lizards and craw imitations. The fish will be anywhere from shallow morning and nite to 10-15 down. You could also try rattle traps, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits and small craw imitating crank baits. Should be alot of fun. You might also make a side trip up to Moosehead and try lily bay. A fair number of 5-6 lb smallies being caught up there this year. Good luck. Quote

Cyork Posted August 7, 2008 Posted August 7, 2008 I'd bring some gitzit tubes (just grab a variety pack from wally-world) and mepps spinners as well. The gitzit pack will most likely have the basic colors you'll need (047, 200, 215, 219, 220). For the spinners most colors in sizes 1-3 should get the job done but I would recommend silver, gold, firetiger, and red/ white. For rattletraps go with 1/4 oz or 1/8 oz, firetiger, baby bass, and crawdad should fit the bill. Quote
Doc Smallie Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Tubes are irrestistible, lightly weighted, say 1/8 or 3/16 oz., with 6 or 8 lb. line. Quote
Cyork Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 Yep, I use em on a 7' Light action rod with 6lb line. Quote
