ultralightning88 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 In top five fashion would some of you guys give me your top five very early morning lures for river smallies? Much appreciated. Quote
wisturkeyhunter Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 Heres 5 baits I would be happy throwing none of them are much better than the others. So in no real order it would be. I'm not really convinced that smaller baits are the way to go most times for smallies. 1. single colorado blade spinnerbait in any color 2. 5 inch Senko in any darker color rigged weedless and weightless 3. 3-5 inch grub with a jig head again any darker color 4. number 11 or 13 rapala orig. floater, can be worked below surface or twitched on top. Any color will work. 5. Super spook its killer walked on the surface. Any color Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 17, 2008 Super User Posted June 17, 2008 In low light, the Zara Spook and LC Pointer rule! Later in the morning and throughout the day, tubes, Hula Grubs and Single Tail Grubs are great producers. 8-) Quote
Justin Mahaney Posted June 18, 2008 Posted June 18, 2008 If you can find smallmouth feeding early in shallow water I would suggest a top water lure, such as a buzzbait, jitterbug, spook ect. When the top water bite slows down start dragging tubes w/ a craw colour pattern along the bottom of the lake (look for rocks/hard bottoms) Slow Dragging and Bouncing Tubes are my smallmouth killers (4" tubes) Also sweeping spinnerbaits up the hill on offshore humps can bring in super results. bronzeback88 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 In the low light in the AM I like top waters that make a little commotion--prop baits like the torpedo and poppers like the skitter pop. Don't go to the river without some in line spinners (#2, #3 mepps) especially when the water is moving and skinny. They work regardless on the time of day. Having a good idea of the primary forage in the river helps...crawfish--tubes and crawfish imitators; minnows--twisters, slugos, senkos. I don't know how fast the river is but in faster the water a fishes window can be small so a bait that lets them know its coming (sound, flash) can improve your hookups. Quote
Bass_junky Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 I'm surprised the X-Rap #8 has not been mentioned. Zara Spook Jr 1/8 oz BB X-Rap #8 (although not top water) still produces in early/late light and mid morning Quote
mrmacwvu1 Posted August 6, 2008 Posted August 6, 2008 have not tried them yet but i would guess that the ragetail shad would work great Quote
Doc Smallie Posted August 8, 2008 Posted August 8, 2008 1. Senko, weightless, rigged wacky 2. Suspending jerkbait 3. Zara Spook or similar walk-the-dog- style bait 4. Lightly weighted tube 5. Drop shot w/various small plastics Quote
