JShrock07 Posted June 5, 2008 Posted June 5, 2008 I have never fished for smallmouth other then in small shallow creeks where the fish dont get about 6-10 oz. Does anyone know where in NoVa where I could go to catch a nice one??? Quote
bigfruits Posted June 23, 2008 Posted June 23, 2008 drive down to shenandoah and rent a canoe. go to downriver outfitters. not huge smallmouth but you should catch a good amt. Quote
River Rat 58 Posted June 24, 2008 Posted June 24, 2008 im not sure where to go but as far as tackle is concerned u cant go wrong with a couple of mepps spinners for small mouth also the old black and white rapalas are equaly good Quote
Super User Dan: Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 Don't go to the Shenandoah, there are better options since the fish kills... NitroMan, PM me if you want an OK spot near Centreville or some good spots near Fredericksburg. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 6, 2008 Super User Posted July 6, 2008 Reply sent. I forgot to list the spot in Centreville but it isn't as good as some of the others I told you about in the PM. If you really want to know it, send me another PM or ask in a reply. Quote
JShrock07 Posted July 7, 2008 Author Posted July 7, 2008 Dang Dan, You really have a lot of insight on all these places!!! Thanks for taking the time. -Nitro Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 7, 2008 Super User Posted July 7, 2008 No problem, let me know if you want to do some wading on a weekend this summer before August 15th. I may have my trolling motor for my jon boat set up by then, though Quote
WV_Eagle Posted July 12, 2008 Posted July 12, 2008 Don't forget the Potomac too. Plenty of good spots adjacent to NoVA on the upper river. Here's a link to Ken Penrod's fishing report. It should give you some ideas on locations. He's a longtime guide and loves smallie fishing. Here's the link: http://www.penrodsguides.com/fishingreport.htm Quote
Pitchinkid Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 NORTH FORK OF THE SOUTH BRANCH OF THE POTOMAC HOLDS SOME HUGE SMALLMOUTH AND THE NUMBERS ARE OUT OF THIS WORLD. FISHING BY CANOE IS THE WAY TO GO. EAGLES NEST OUTFITTERS WILL DROP YOU OFF AND PICK YOU UP FOR A SMALL FEE IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN CANOE PLUS THEY RENT AS WELL. 2 DAY TRIP IS AWESOME, YOU CAN CAMP RIGHT ON THE SIDE OF THE RIVER. PLUS YOU DONT WANNA BE RUSHED TO GET THROUGH A 15 MILE TRIP IN 1 DAY. I DO IT AT LEAST ONCE A YEAR. OTHER THAN COME ON DOWN TO THE NEW RIVER WHERE THE SMALLMOUTH ARE RIDICULOUS. ITS LIKE THEY ARE ALL EQUIPED WITH .351 SMALL BLOCKS ON THE BACKS. Quote
Irish_Bassman Posted July 22, 2008 Posted July 22, 2008 im not too sure on this as ive never gotten to fish it, but i hear goose creek that runs through the ashburn/leesburg area is supposed to hold some nice smallies. i personally fished the shenandoah and the rivana river near charlottesville. the rivana has a decent population and there are some big smallies there (ive lost quite a few on poor hooksets) but my biggest out of either river was maybe only 3lbs.
