Anyone use this for river smallies? i bought a cheap 1/32 oz fly from walmart and some bobbers that look similar to the floats everyone uses. and would a 7ft medium action spinning rod be alright?

float and fly is a technique mainly used on gin clear lakes

i have never tried it on a river but it might work

Hey Boett,

I've tried it a couple of times at PEPCO using an 1/8 or 1/4oz bucktail jig as the "fly". I haven't had any luck with the combination yet. I was throwing the rig on a 6'6" MH spinning rod.

Replace the fly with a wacky rig senko, and try it at your fav lake.Have the senko just above the weeds.
