MarVaBC Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I caught this fish a couple months ago on the Susquehanna in PA. Never measured or weighed her. How much do you think she went? I'm not trying to get a reproduction or anything......just curious what you guys think.....thanks! Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 12, 2008 Super User Posted June 12, 2008 I would guess 3-4 lbs. 8-) Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 12, 2008 Super User Posted June 12, 2008 Yeah, I edited my response. I'll add this comment, too: Your fish could easily go 5 lbs depending on how long it was. I have caught 5+lb fish that were long and skinny vs. short and fat. 8-) Quote
Super User Dwight Hottle Posted June 12, 2008 Super User Posted June 12, 2008 Nice river bass. I would guess 5lb-5.5lb range. Quote
Davis Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 I'll go with 4.5 maybe 5. That sucker looks just like my PB smallie from last year. Quote
thetr20one Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Yea RW I have to double take and judging from the mouth and girth I believe that fish is a solid 5 1/2. And it is not very short either. Anyways way to go MarVaBC. Let my modify that is a definately a solid 5 1/2. Quote
JigNBig Posted June 12, 2008 Posted June 12, 2008 Thats a nice smallmouth. Closest smallmouth to me are up by RW. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 I'm not good at guessing from pictures, but that's a GREAT smallie! Congrats, Dan Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 13, 2008 Super User Posted June 13, 2008 Thats a nice smallmouth. Closest smallmouth to me are up by RW. Dude! The Alabama State Record (10 lbs 8 oz) was caught below Wheeler Dam. The next World Record will probably be caught below Wilson Dam, IN ALABAMA! 8-) Quote
Tokyo Tony Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 My first instinct was 3.5-4, but I guess it could have been more if she was a fatty. I don't know about a definite 5.5, but I know it's definitely a big, beautiful smallmouth ;D What'd you get her on? How was the fight? What kind of tackle were you using? By the way, I know that spot - I can recognize those unique trees from a mile away! Wait...maybe I'm having an acid flashback ;D Quote

Caught it on a jerkbait on a ML baitcaster. They fight amazing in the river...strong fish. I was thinking it was around 4.25 or 4.5lb. My official PB is 4# on the dot....figured this one was a little bigger maybe because it was a lot thicker. Either way - just glad to be able to catch a fat healthy smallie.....can't beat it. Quote

SuskyDude Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Hard to say with pictures. I'd guess between 4.5-5.5. Beauty! Without a doubt over 4. Quote
WTRDOG Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 Always a good idea to buy a decent digital scale. It's amazing how someone will guess 4 to 5 lbs and when you weigh it ,it only goes 3.Nice fish ,but I'd guess 3.5 lbs at best.I also like where your fishing what a beautiful background.... : : Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted June 13, 2008 Super User Posted June 13, 2008 Hmm... As a rule of thumb: Most unweighed " 'bout 5 or 6" are 3 lbs. It takes " 'bout 7 or 8" to get to 5 lbs. Also, pictures can make big fish look small and vice versa. 8-) Quote

Either way its a very nice chunk of Bronze. Anyway, buy a scale! That way you won't be trusting us "experts" to guess. Based on us, that fish is anywhere from 3 to 6 pounds! Quote
MarVaBC Posted June 16, 2008 Author Posted June 16, 2008 Yeah I have a Boga, and make a point to weigh better fish, but I was on someone elses boat and brought minimal amts. of gear w./ me. Thanks for the estimates....I figured there would be a wide range of guesses. Quote
TournyFish001 Posted June 17, 2008 Posted June 17, 2008 a solid 4.25 to 5lb'er definately over 4. Seen lots of those this spring unfortunately not at the end of my line... my best was a 2.98 this year so far. Quote
Sharkbite Posted June 19, 2008 Posted June 19, 2008 Wow thats a bass. I would say 5-6 lber. I trying to fish that river one day for now I am on the Delalware. I have alot of freinds by there though in Hazelton. Congrats Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted June 20, 2008 Super User Posted June 20, 2008 I think it might weight 72.3 pounds. Thought I would widen the gap a little Great looking fish though, for sure. Quote
MSRiverdog Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 Last year a buddy of mine and I staged a pic, called it a 19"er and everybody, good Smallie guys, bought it, it was a 16"er, we told em later. You can't tell anything by an arm out pic other than it's a nice looking fish. I'll go 3.5#s max. Quote
