north pole Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 Does anyone fish with buzzbaits? and are they effective at catching smallmouth bass? Quote
HPBB Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 yes I do fish them for Sm and they work great. on little trick I do is when fishing rivers, cast the buzzbait onto shore, just at the water line, then pull it into the water and start running it. most of the time they will crush it as soon as it hits the water at the waters edge. I've never fished a buzzbait like that, but I've had a ton of success doing the same thing with soft jerkbaits. Quote
MNGeorge Posted May 29, 2008 Posted May 29, 2008 We use buzzers all the time for river Smallies. We are continually amazed at how fast you can reel a buzzer sometimes and still get Smallies to hit them, especially in the faster water in the summer. We are also continually amazed by how far they can miss the bait altogether, even on slower retrieves. We've had then jump right over the bait and never touch it. Always fun though. Quote

You will never out reel a gamefish of any type, not possible. Quote
bassnleo Posted May 30, 2008 Posted May 30, 2008 Some of my biggest river smallies have come on buzzbaits! My favorites are 1/8 and 1/4 oz Cavitrons. Quote
zuo Posted June 4, 2008 Posted June 4, 2008 buzzbaits are awesome...if they are short striking, use a trailer hook...you can also bend down the hook arm so more of it is beneath the surface... 8-) Quote
MSRiverdog Posted June 25, 2008 Posted June 25, 2008 I gave up on trailers and keep a rod rigged with a Senko next to me. They hit the Buzzer and miss and follow it with a Senko fast, very, very high probability they'll come back on it. We always throw a Senko or Tube back at em' ASAP. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted June 25, 2008 Super User Posted June 25, 2008 Heck yeh and the SM on Texoma absolutely crush them Quote

crappiekid24 Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 They do work good. On rivers I like buzzing the slack water and eddies. Casting to where the current and slack water meet. Quote
