Has anyone got one of these?  I just saw one in the BPS catalog.  do they show you whats there under you like the pics claim, or are they full of it and just a marketing ploy.  the pics in the magazine make them look like a must have.  I've never been good a interpreting  the standard fish finder so would one of these be more helpful.

Its a fish finder/gps unit with a wide beam.  It give you an image supposedly that looks almost like a picture of the bottom from above instead of the side view like normal fish finders.  I cant quite find it online but in the book it looked...shall we say.....too good to be true.  And you know what they say about things like that. Thats why I was asking here.

If you'll go to the hummingbird home page, look at the first page at the top.  If it really works like that it could change the whole way people approach this sport. At least the rich ones anyway. :o

I think as long as you have a decent "regular" sonar and practice with it, you should be fine. A flasher is a good tool, as well as a quality LCD. If you already have one of these, then I'd suggest looking into an UW viewing system/camera. These, along with the use of the sonar, can teach you an awful lot in a short period of time. I don't own one yet myself, but my fishing buddy has one. I think they are priceless! And the prices are coming down every year.

I was listening to a fishing guide this week.  He was talking about his new sonar and how he can tell at a glance when the crappie have left a brush pile.  That, I think, requires a high level of sophistication from a unit.  It sounds like, for those who can afford them, it can really tip the playing field in their direction.  I just hope they save some fish for the future (and for the rest of us schmucks).

thats just what I was thinking FP.  I found it finally...its called side imaging sonar.  shoots three different frequency beams in about an 85 degree arc under your boat up to 480' in a pass.  the returns look like slightly grainy black and white photos.  Doesn't matter about water conditions or light or anything.....its really neat.  The cheapest unit Ive found is about a grand+.  That means it'll be a long time before one lands on my little boat.  I need to find articles on reading your fish finder.  I'll just bet there are some here ;)

I have been struggling with the same thing.  I am trying to locate a channel that I can see on the map.  Im zig zaging back and forth slowly over what I thought was the right area but cant see it.  I thought about the aqua vision thing but it looks like something that you could see about 5 feet with?? anyone have experience with one??  I love the look of the side imaging deal.

I would guess that if the channel is silted in, it would probably show up as a soft(er) bottom than the surrounding area.  Depends, I guess, on how wide/deep the silt is distributed.  Would that be a reasonable conclusion?

This is a hard one to figure out.  I've been doing some research on this myself, looking for something I can use on both freshwater and saltwater...  Can anyone shed any light on this?  Any info would be much appreciated...
