Heading out this morning with Tin2win to go beat my PB smallie of .7 lbs :) ;D

He was on them real good yesterday in a place he had to all but land haul his boat to get to.  We are making our way up into a river that is off a small lake.  This is the lake I met Mike at about a yr ago when I was the "adult" in his boat when he competed for the state champs.

I remember when he was fishing the mouth of this river and to think we are going waaaay up the river makes me think,...hmmmmm  This is going to be interesting.

It's 60 degrees, raining and the fog is so thick, it's like being in the middle of a cloud.

Like Zona said on WGFS this morning,...could this be heaven??

ok, strike one.

We caught LM but no smallies but now I know where they "can" be :)  I'll be back.. Mike hit a 4 and a 5 lbr there yesterday.  That's no joke for RI/Conn ;)

Good luck, LBH. I really do hope you catch some nice ones. Every angler should experience the fun of smallmouth fishing.

There is a lot of good smallie areas in CT. I have been fishing Pachuag a lot for smallies and have got a few in the 4-5 pound range in the past month. A guy I was fishing with a few weeks back dropped one a few feet from the boat the was all of 6 if not bigger. But there are other great smallmouth fisheries in CT, most tourney's at Candlewood it will take an 8 fish limit of smallies for 25-30+ to win in the spring and fall. Also the Conntecticut River is just amazing. Especially north of Hartford, but it is nasty to run in a boat. The guy that won the Eastern Divisional there used a jet-boat to run north because of how shallow it gets. The Enfield area is supposed to be the best though.

tin2win - thanks for the info.  I didn't know Pachaug had smallies - I've fished there twice and there are some nice LMB and pike (and crappies) in there, but no smallie action.  I'll definitely be fishing the CT River a bunch next year though.
