Super User Dan: Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 Now, I know these fish aren't huge, but I've only been fishing for a year and they are vast improvements since last summer so bear with me. I just caught two new PB smallies today so I figured I post the three big fish I've caught this summer. And remember, Virginia isn't a great smallmouth state right now (besides the James and New Rivers) so these fish are huge compared to what I normally catch. This one I caught on the Juniata River in Pennsylvania from my new jonboat. These two are from today on the Rapidan River here in Virginia. My best so far. ;D Very long but skinny... Got a new spot with some good wading. All were caught on soft jerkbaits (green pumpkin) Sorry, no weights. Quote
Bizzo Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Nothing wrong with those fish at all! I'll take em' all day long. Good stuff! Quote
Super User grimlin Posted July 10, 2007 Super User Posted July 10, 2007 Awesome fish! Can't beat the fight those smallies give up! Quote
electrikal Posted July 10, 2007 Posted July 10, 2007 Look good to me!! A lot of smallies here in N. Alabama look like those. Wish I could afford to fish up north and catch some of the beauties they have in those lakes :-/. Quote
TennesseeVols14 Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 CONGRATES!!!!!!!! they are some nice lookin fish 8-)........ Quote
jc2bg Posted July 11, 2007 Posted July 11, 2007 Smallmouths on soft jerkbaits. Doesn't get much better than that... Thanks for sharing! I live up near Lake Erie, where a lot of our smallmouths look like they have a pinhead ('cause their body is so big). But "big" is relative to the day, where you're fishing, and what you've been catching. Since I haven't caught any smallmouth lately, yours look great to me. -- JC Quote
Pops Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 Great catch Dan, Congrats. Warning - fishing rivers for smallies is addicting!! Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 12, 2007 Author Super User Posted July 12, 2007 Great catch Dan, Congrats. Warning - fishing rivers for smallies is addicting!! it sure is! My favorite type of fishing by far is wading shallow rivers. If the fishing is slow, you can always go swimming. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted July 12, 2007 Super User Posted July 12, 2007 Wish I could afford to fish up north and catch some of the beauties they have in those lakes :-/. Up north? Come on man, Virginia is below the Mason-Dixon line! ;D ...we dont want anybody to get confused. Nice smallies DD! Quote
eastkybass Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 All three are nice looking to me. Congrats on the new PB. Quote
Super User Dan: Posted July 13, 2007 Author Super User Posted July 13, 2007 Thanks for all the comments, guys. I wish I had taken measurements but it's hard to do that while wading by yourself. The fish in the pictures with just my arm were longer than the one in the picture of me holding the fish. For reference, in the second pic there is 4'' of a 5'' jerkbait hanging out of the fish's mouth. I judged that one and the third one to be in the 20'' range. Quote
michbass Posted July 27, 2007 Posted July 27, 2007 Great catch Dan, Congrats. Warning - fishing rivers for smallies is addicting!! That is for sure, just had two days of it on the St.Clair river drifting and it was a blast, very productive. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted July 27, 2007 Super User Posted July 27, 2007 Congrats on those fine looking fish! Quote
