fishingfourfun Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I'm going smallmouth fishing on the suquehena river on 4/20. What should I expect on numbers and size of fish? Will be fishing out of the Harrsburg area. Any help would be appreciated. I have never been fishing for smallmouth and can't wait to feel the pull! Quote
Big-Bass Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Depends...hopefully you will have a good day and catch about 20 or so smallmouth. Tubes, senkos, small spinnerbaits work well. Good luck. Quote
anthony6377 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I booked a trip with a guide for June 15. I can't wait to get out there! Let us know how you do. Quote
Fastbassg3 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Expect good number for that time of year.I guide here on the north branch.Tubes in almost any color where the ticket last spring .The spinerbait bite was also great last year find some black skirts or lime green ones a good trick is to shorten a spinerbait arm really short and run a number 7 or 8 blade .willow The smallie fishing is a bit diffrent up here sometimes from the main stem one of my favorite big smallie bait is a hula grub 3/4 oz head black neon . fishingfourfun Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Anthony, who did you book? I booked with Max McCallister. Quote
zara spook Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I've fished the rocks around Marysville before by the mini statue of liberty with topwater but the water was much lower. I've also fished this river upstream around Sunbury with a black 1/4 oz jighead and a 1" lil' bit Mr. Twister also in black...pretty good results both times...there are some big fish in these waters. anthony6377 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Anthony, who did you book? I booked with Max McCallister. I actually considered Max McCallister, but I booked with Blaine Mengel instead. I read great things about both guys, so I'm confident neither of us made a bad choice. Quote
FlipnFanatic Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 fishingfourfun, I went out with Max a couple of years ago. You made a pretty good selection on your guide. He is a really good guy, and knows the river. Not to get you too excited, but when I went out with him, we pulled in about 60 or so throughout the day. Have fun!!! The Susky is a blast. Quote
fishingfourfun Posted March 30, 2007 Author Posted March 30, 2007 what time of year did you go? I set up a trip for 4/20 and one for 9/15. Quote
justfishin Posted March 30, 2007 Posted March 30, 2007 All you will need on your Susky Trip 5" bluegill colored grubs or cinnamon/purple flake Tubes in green pumpkin/red flake, dark melon/purple flake with 1/8 and 1/4 jig heads. 1/2oz spinnerbaits with chartreuse blades White Super Flukes with the very end of the tail dipped in Spike it chartreuse dye, add a Gremlin 1/64oz bullet sinker on the nose. Senkos in green pumpkin and dark melon/red flake fish the current breaks and mini eddies ( eddies within eddies ) Trust me, a good day is not 20, this time of year two guys should have between 60-100 in eight hours. Good luck. Quote
