Guys, I have 1 (one) smallmouth under my belt in this lifetime.  That ain't right.  I am putting out an appeal to anyone in the NE area who would be kind enough to take me to your bronzeback honey hole.  I will bring the food/drink and cigars and ,of course, gas money.

You are welcome to come visit out here(South Dakota)anytime.  We will put you into some smallies or walleyes.  I wouldn't recommend the winter though.  Chances are, you won't need to travel this far to get into some smallies but, your always welcome if you find yourself out this way.

You could always meet me at Table Rock Lake April 3-7! I am staying at Big Cedar Lodge. Went last year and going back this year if that tell's you anything   I have caught all three species of black bass at the rock. Numbers and size in each species what more could you ask for.

Of Course you could make the third annual BassResource trip to the rock next year, Just a thought, I am sure everyone would enjoy the multi-species of bass in one body of water.

LBH, mid April throught mid May is the prime time to get quality Smallmouth at Beltzville Lake (the location for our C.A.S.T. event in September) here in the western Poconos.  If you want to come down then to check out the site, I will be happy to turn you on to those red eyed bronzebacks.  

I'm leaving in 15 minutes to go pick up a 18ft used fish & ski I just purchased... hope the weather hold off.  Let me know if you're interested.  Beltzville is primarily a Smallmouth fishery, and okay for Largemouth.  It's also got real nice Walleye and Muskys.

If you want to travel a little further south in PA, the Susquehanna is a year-round smallmouth factory.

I am a spring smallmouth guy, but would be more than willing to hit the water with you in the fall somewhere....as long as you put me in one of those videos!!!!  LOL

Am I understanding that you need a road trip to Lake St Clair? If you cant catch one there you might as well give it up and stick with largie fishing. ;D I mean geez, I even caught a few there. :-? ;D

Yea, Ri has 3 or 4 ponds/lakes with smallies but they are small and certainly not numerous.  I am hoping Cigarlover finds a couple sweet spots on a place called Quabbin Res up where he lives in Mass.  He's not too far (driveable).

I have another friend who lives on the Susky too, Sounds like Pa could be a beneficial trip for me in lots of ways.  I'd love to meet a bunch of you and also catch up with my buddy.  Hmmmm....

Ya I think we can handle this. That just ain't right, only one smallie. Man are you missing out. You got an open invite to the Susky, just drop me a line, maybe we can make it a trio here in NEPA. We can hookup shallow or deep. Anytime from april to november I can guarantee you a 30 fish day. If the bite is on in the fall you'll be looking at 50-100 easy with lots of 3-4lbers.

Wow, some very generous offers guys, thank you very much!  I was thinking some of the NH guys would be on this thread too but I think they finally have ice so we may not hear from them for a little while,lol.

I will be in Leighton in late September for the CAST event that Muddy,Zel and Brutus are putting together.  How far would it be if we wanted to drive from there (susky fishin').  I could definately stay a few days to take advantage of the generosity offered.  

As Zel mentioned, there are smallies in the water where they are holding their event, perhaps I can get a warm up at Beltzville and then make my way over/down/up to you guys.

I am home sick today so, after I am done all this paper work I will get directions for you. Do you have a address in Leighton PA I can go from? Dizzy lives in that general area but, I live a hour and a half away. I run up I-81 from Hagerstown MD. I only live about 25 minutes west of Hagerstown MD. Hey, we could even run down to Three Mile Island. The fish are easy to find there, they glow in the dark!!! It's not quite the NE, but not too far off. I enjoy wading the smallmouth streams here in Northern VA in summer. The fish are smaller than what you'll find in Tennessee or the Great Lakes, a two pounder is a large fish, but seeing as a two pound smallmouth is the equivalent of a four pound largemouth it is still a blast. My son caught the below fishing the Rappahannock last summer.

If your willing to travel to Bath, NY, I have a small boat that can get us out on the water to catch smallmouths. There are some really good smallmouth fishing as far as numbers, but they aren't real big.I did catch a 6.4 lb smallie 3 years ago, but usually 5 lbs is a really good smallmouth here.This offer stands for anyone else as well.I will be out there fishing anyway. ;DIvan

Hey LBH as soon as I find em on the Quabbin I'll let you know. I myself have only caught 1 smallie and that was while I was trolling for Walleye. lol I would love to get more experienced catching smallies so hopefully I'll have some luck. I think the Quabbin opens back up in April. The only thing that stinks is I have a narrow flat bottom boat that I wouldn't take out on the Quabbin even if they did allow it, which I don't think they do. I still plan to go out in the rentals just not as much as I'd like to.

LBH, September at Beltzville is a great time of the year for Sunfish, Bluegill and Perch and the C.A.S.T. Kids should be able to catch a whole bunch of them.  But if you're looking to get Smallmouth, it's one of the worse months. Early morning and evening you can do okay with topwater, and natural colored 4 worms and tubes when they're traveling the breaklines and hanging around the rocks near deep water.  During the day they go deep into the 18' to 25' range, so I hope you're good (or willing to learn) with 1/4 ounce jigging spoons and drop shots.  The primary baitfish there are Alewife, and it's got a lot of crayfish.  Also the Smallies seem to be active in bunches, so you've got to find the sweet spots, and you'll hit a couple within a few minutes of each other, then nothing for the longest time.  But don't fret, I've got my spots.  I lived within a couple of miles of Beltzville for 18 years and was taught much of the lake from a semi-pro who also lived near there. He fished 2 Bassmaster Classics and once won a BASS Northern Open, so he sure knew what he was doing.  Also, fishing at Beltzville Lake and the Susky River is like night and day they're nothing alike except for the fact that they're both wet.

If you want some monster smallies from the Quabbin, Go out of Gate 31 and nail all the coves on the western side.  Use senko type baits and hold on!    I love that place, I try to fish it at least 3-4 times a year.

Quabbin can be good, also a very beautiful spot. There's also suprising fishing around the Cape area, I've heard Johns Pond in Plymouth has some nice smallies. Maine is probably the place to go with hundreds of smallie choked small waters. NH, Champlain- the list goes on. I lived in Pawtucket for years and have fished quite a bit around that area. Unfortunately or not, probably the best fishery in NE or more is in RI: the Scituate Res :'(   I bet there are smallies in RI, maybe in the NE corner, maybe even in Johnsons pond or beach pond, probably more. I always thought that the Attleboro Res (maybe called Manchester) right off the highway looked like a smallie heaven but I didn't fish it much and the most you can do is a float tube. I can recommend a great canoe/kayak trip if you'd be interested in that kind of thing. It's on the lower third of the Ct River in Vt. and it can be just awesome. True smallie habitat with gravel shoals and clear water, no power boats. I recently moved to TN right by Norris Lake and it holds smallies if your ever in this area.

Every smallmouth I have caught has been out of the Susq.  It's an awesome fishery with numbers of decent sized smallies
