Senkos for Smallies?

I 've been hearing a ton about Senkos lately and was wondering if they work as good on smallies as they do on LM bass?

I have caught smallies on senkos so they go after them. Its in there nature do go after some thing that looks like its dieing.

The smallies will definitely eat Senkos. It's been my experience that the smallies hit a t-rigged Senko really well when fished like a Fluke but I haven't had much luck with smallies when I wacky rig. The complete opposite has been true for largemouth. That's how it's been for me anyway.

I pour my own "knock offs" and I have real good success on smallies.  I fish a lot of smallmouth lakes, and pitching one of these around docks can be deadly.  I tend to use the 4" models for smallmouth and the 5" for largemouth.  I have the best luck with browns and green colors.

in rivers smallie fishing can be really good with senkos.  i throw it up stream so that the current will drift it into things like rocks that break the current and it can be deadly.  i give it no action other than an occasional lift, but just letting it drift along the bottom can be really productive for smallies.

Smallies love them. I catch them consistently wacky rigged. I catch them well both on lakes & rivers. In fact one time last year I was out on Torch Lake, MI when they were spawning and some of them would flat out ignore a tube until I threw a wacky senko at them and ....BOOM! They couldn't resist them. Even on bad casts, they would leave their beds 15 feet to get it. After the tourney I found several leeches lying in the livewell; a connection in my mind was then made!

I've had good luck with GYCB cut tails, smoke (no flake).  They are a little smaller.

I really like the senkos for smallies.  I have had good luck carolina rigging them wacky style in the spring.

When i fish the crick by my house in the summer, all we use is senkos. We did exceptionaly well this year. Our biggest between my dad and i was about 18 inches, 2.5 pounds. In one night we caught 24 smallies combined in about two hours, most were 12 to 15 inches, ALL ON SENKOS, so yeah, i'd say they work. We used Kinami Flash, 4 inch, natural shad or junebug. We also do good in the river to.

I have used senkos with a drop shot rig for smallmouth with good success.

I caught my first ever smallie on a senko while fishing for largemouth. After that I was specificaly targetting them with senkos, but found I had better luck with more traditional smallie baits such as tubes or jerkbaits.

Now were talkin!!!  JoMatty hit it on the head when he mentioned the "do nothing"approach.  This is a great presentation in lakes or rivers for smallies.  The subtle action of the senko style baits drives the smallies crazy.  The toughest part is knowing when you get bit, and setting the hook before the fish has a chance to swallow the bait.  You will deep hook fish w/ this method :-/...you have to watch your line carefully for movement.  You can start off by crimping your barbs untill you get the hang of it.

We used Kinami Flash, 4 inch, natural shad or junebug.

There you have it! add that sand colored 4" flash and that is all you need to catch river smallmouth.

When fishing shallow water find big rocks sticking out of the water near the center. Cast down stream like Jomatty said and send it straight in to the rock and youll get a take. i like 5in in watermelon with red flake.
