smallmouth guides in the USA

I have some fellows on another forum that are asking about smallmouth guides in the US.   Any suggestions?  They want a guided trip and don't care about travel.  Spring time.

BTW, This is the guy that caught the 10 lb. smallmouth 11/03. I netted and weighed it, he released it.

Forum member, J.D. guides in Pennsylvania. I think Cedar1 guides on Lake Erie. Two other guides you might want to contact are Steve Hacker and Jim Duckworth. They fish here in the MidSouth, are well known and get a lot of press.

If they are way out west around the Columbia River have them look up Bob Atkinson.Bob resently picked up a 7lb 9 oz smallie on the Columbia.He guides the upper REACH area as well as Patterson and Crow Butte area's.Ask Glenn abot Bob I think he know's him.Alot of people think it is only a matter of time before the next state record is caughtin THE REACH up at Hanford.GB...JIm

I'm glad you mentioned Fred McClintock, Mr. Multispecies! I would like to fish a week with him on the Cumberland fishing for monster stripers, Cordell Hull, Old Hickory and Dale Hollow for smallmouth. He also guides for musky and probably walley. Talk about the ultimate freshwater guide! He might give the Lindners a run for the money.

I haven't fished with McClintock, but I plan to.

I concur, Fred is a legend is his own time.

I have noticed you mention stripers a lot, they were my first love and obsession. I was very fortunate

to be living in New Jersey during the so-called "Bunker Dunking" era of the late 60s, early 70s.

If you're unfamiliar with that term, it was drifting a menhaden (moss bunker) on the bottom.

There was no "catch-and-release" in those days and the standard rig utilized a treble hook :-[

Sitting in the flotilla of boats, I would watch as 20 to 40-pound striped bass were being gaffed

and flung over the gunwales with the rapidity of a porgy fleet (without exaggeration).

My personal best was a 44 pounder. There was a friendly rivalry between New Jersey

and Massachusetts, which at that time held the world-record. My friend Ronnie boated

the New Jersey record aboard his Sea Wife, just shy of the Massachusetts world-record.

His bass would be bested however by the new world-record set again in New Jersey.

This would last only a season or two, when Massachusetts again snatched the world-record away

from Jersey. Low and behold, New Jersey finally regained the world-record record striper,

a record that still stands today. It was a 78lb 8oz elephant taken from the "SURF" near Atlantic City, NJ,

Yeah, striper fishing is my passion, too. Maybe that's part of the reason I didn't think of McClintock as my first recommendation for a smallmouth guide on this thread. I associate him with big stripers. We have caught some pretty nice fish on the Tennessee River, but nothing compared to the Cumberland or the kind of fishing you were doing in salt water. Most of our striper fishing starts around the first of April and lasts into September, but by then I'm ready to hunt the brown fish.

Back to the thread...My partner, Speedy would be a good choice. He furnishes G.Loomis Bronzeback rods matched with Shimano Stellas. It's a high quality experience, but I think your guys would have a big time fishing with one of the legends. The other guides we have mentioned are featured in the magazines all the time. You probably can't go wrong with any of them.

I have'nt fished with him, but he holds the record for the 5 heaviest smallmouth in a tourn. at Pickwick with 27.5lbs. Ya, I was one of the first people Bob called when he caught that hawg.  You could hear his voice still filled with excitement.  He's a great guide http://www.adkinsonbass.com/

Thanks for posting that Glenn,I kinda fogot to even say where he was out of.My home of Kennewick Wa.I can only dream of fishing Dale Hollow and Pickwick and a few of those others.The guilds you guys are talking about are only in my dreams.lolAlong with GIANT SMALLIES...Gb..Jim
