VAbacklash Posted February 12, 2007 Posted February 12, 2007 I generally fish stained water in lakes from 3,000 to 50,000 acres. I'm about average in most presentations other than topwater and finesse fishing. I don't spend much time trying to learn those two methods at all. Getting to my question: Do you think 14lb. test mono is too heavy for casting Lucky Craft CB350's? The packaging suggests 8 to 10 lb. test, which to me calls for spinning reels. I know heavier pound test = less depth, but I'm looking for suggestions. Thanks in advance! Yeah!!, the bait monkey got me this weekend!! Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 12, 2007 Super User Posted February 12, 2007 The package suggests 8-10 pound test line because the manufacturer gives a diving depth reference, if the manufacturer claims the bait runs at 8 ft then it 's 8 ft with 8-10 pound test line. If you increase the DIAMETER ( not the pound thest but the diameter of the line ) the bait will run shallower, if you do the opposite the bait will run deeper. The diving depth capability of the bait is theoretically 1 ft + or less ( depednding upon the case ) for every pound you change the line diameter. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted February 12, 2007 Super User Posted February 12, 2007 I use 10# mono and a composite rod with the CB350's. I wouldnt even consider anything more than 12# mono for the 350's......and I'd only use the 12# if I didnt have any 10# close by. Quote
The_Natural Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I also use 10lb line on my crankbait rig, sometimes going down to 8lb if I'm throwing smaller baits. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I almost never throw a crankbait with line heavier than 10 lb...............or a jerkbait........... ;D Quote
lovecranking Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Why do you like the Moonsault CB350 over say the Flat CB D12? Also, does anyone know the difference between the Moonsault CB350 and the Combat CB? Quote
The_Natural Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Why do you like the Moonsault CB350 over say the Flat CB D12? Also, does anyone know the difference between the Moonsault CB350 and the Combat CB? The Moonsault has an extremely tight action, and is the loudest crankbait I have come across. All Moonsaults have multiple rattle chambers combining several sizes and materials of rattles, including glass beads. I would consider the Flat CB a 'Finesse crank'...it is definitely more subtle when comparing it to the Moonsault. You can hear the moonsault coming before you see it surface. I'll take a pic when I get my camera recharged. Quote
VAbacklash Posted February 14, 2007 Author Posted February 14, 2007 Lucky Craft lures are new to my tacklebox and it's not that I prefer one style of their lures over another as much as it is closer in appearance to the different brands I own. I haven't had the chance to put one in the water yet, but they do have a good loud rattle. If they are as good as reported or as good as I hope, I'm sure I'll try all that fit my style of fishing. Flat sided Bombers and Rapalas have worked for me in the past. Quote
Gorgebassman Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I throw mostly 10 lb test on a baitcast reel for my crankbaits although I have thrown some on 6lb test off a spinning reel if im throwing a small bait. Quote
