The_Natural Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 This can be an ongoing post/log. Just list the date, water temp, water clarity, and weather. What baits did you start with? What did you end up throwing or what worked? I feel line size is important as well. I'm heading out tomorrow, and will report. This will be very good information for folks.... Quote

Super User Wayne P. Posted April 19, 2009 Super User Posted April 19, 2009 Since I've fished 23 days so far this year mostly in a weedy timber filled lake, I'll summerize. I started with a Chatterbait and Trap when the water temps were in the 40's and just added a weedless wacky rigged Trick worm as the water warmed up into the 50's and low 60's. Those lures worked all thru the day with the Trick worm being better as the spawn gets closer. 333 bass so far this year, with 18 between 4# and 6#, and 1 over 7#. I've been using the same line size as it makes no difference as far as water color-it's based on the cover and potential fish size. Quote
aarogb Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Outing # 1 for me as well to my grandma's pond. 1. Weightless Zoom Tickworm in Bruised Banana color 2. Wacky rigged Senko in clear/gold/black flake I was using a 6'6" medium heavy spinning rod with 10# Berkeley Trilene line. The hook for number 1 was a Owner offset shank 3/0 hook. The hook for number 2 was 1/0 EWG Gamakatsu. Quote
Primus Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 Yesterday fished a weedy natural lake, water temp was app 54 degrees, water clearity clear. Caught app 25 bass, no lunkers only 6 keepers. As mentioned in another post used the Koppers Live Target Craw Trap in the Red Black, caught app 12 of the 25 including a couple between 3-4 lbs. The remaing fish came on a 1/4 oz Kietech jig/ Green Pumpkin with matching 2-3/4 " Yum Craw Papi trailer and also an Ima Flit jerkbait in the Chartreuse Shad color. The Ima Flit is another bait that I'm getting more impressed with as my Husky Jerks and the Pointers that I tried failed to get bit. Quote

Super User Micro Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 My last time out on my boat... Friday, April 10 Chickahominy Reservoir, southeast Virginia. Started out at about 8:30AM, finished to about 5:30PM. Water temp about 59 in the morning, warming up to about 64 by mid afternoon. Water is stained. I fished crwdad and chart colored Bomber Fat As, brown craw colored T/N70 lipless, and X-Raps, without result (these had been productive earlier in the week). Around 11:30 AM I started fishing edges of weeds that the wind was blowing into. I was using a a 7' mh/f rod with 12# Yo-Zuri Hybrid, green. I was using a Rage Tail Space Monkey in green pumpkin/black flakes on an Owner Twist Lock weighter 4/0 hook. Hooked up in most coves and pockets in the weed line. Caught a great many buck bass, but caught several bigger bas in the 2-3 lb range, with the biggest of the day a little over 5 lbs. This was my best day for shear numbers ever, in my life. By 5:30 PM we had over 20 bass. Biggest of the day... Quote
The_Natural Posted April 20, 2009 Author Posted April 20, 2009 4/19/09 New Pond Water...Muddy and 61. Weather...very windy and 65. Rig...Daiwa Steez 6'3" MH/ Quantum Tour PT/ 10lb Trilene 100% I just went out on foot patrol for a couple of hours at a pond I saw while running errands yesterday. I just grabbed a couple of baits and put them in my pocket. I wasn't very optimistic when I got there and the water looked like chocolate milk, but figured I could at least practice casting . Most of the trip I worked a 'loud' spinnerbait (loud in color ), and tried a bomber square-A for the last half hour. I didn't even sniff a fish. I'm not 100% sure there are any fish in there, but I will give it a second chance when the water doesn't look like diarrhea. What a great report, huh? I'm not even sure why I typed it. Quote

jacker Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 Lake Wisconsin 4/18 water temp-55-60 water-stained We started off fishing way back in back bays in about 1-3 feet of water chucking lipless cranks and spinnerbaits to try to find fish. We cought a couple legals that way but wasnt working great so we started flippin jigs in shoreline cover. we did manage one 3 pounder we started searching for minnows, we found some on the south side of the lake where all the wind was blowing into. we eneded up most succesful using lipless cranks on rocky shorelines about 2-4 feet on the south side of the lake with schools of minnows. in the middle of the trip i saw some muck on the water back in a bay, so i decided to throw a horney taod on it just for kicks, and a 4 pounder smashed it. I was surprised he was that active in 58 degree water, but then again im surprised all the time in spring! Quote
