Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 18, 2009 Super User Posted April 18, 2009 Is anybody using the Bass Magic Soft Swimbaits made by LUCK"E"STRIKE? I got some at BPS to give them a try, and I can't believe how durable these things are. I've caught 21 largemouth on one, and it still looks like new. I was a little skeptical when I bought them, but not anymore. I have some Shadilicious also, but I haven't tried them yet. Just thought I'd do my own commercial for these things. Falcon Quote
CRFisher Posted April 18, 2009 Posted April 18, 2009 I just bought some a few weeks back. I've had a few pickerel hit them but that's it so far. Best is their virtually weedless, even when you add a treble stinger. Can cast them a mile as well. Only a matter of time until they start producing, they've got some good action. Quote
Super User Micro Posted April 18, 2009 Super User Posted April 18, 2009 I bought some a while back. Once I got past the chemical stench, I found they didn't have a lot of action unless you cranked them fast. Ended up giving them away. Quote
CRFisher Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I didn't notice a smell. I thought the action was similar to a hard non-jointed minnow, just the action came from the back as opposed to front - tail wagged enough to give it some wobble. Money minnow have more action? Or is there a better hollow bellied option? Quote
BriBass Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 There is a strong chemical smell to them right out of the package.. but take them out and just let them sit and in a couple days the smell will be gone And to be honest these are one of my favorite hollow swimmbaits.. Very durable like you said.. and good colors IMO.. and great swimming action One question i use the smaller size but what size hooks do you use for the larger sizes? I have a hard time getting the larger sizes to swim right, i used up to 1/2 oz hook... Thanks BB Quote
Super User CWB Posted April 19, 2009 Super User Posted April 19, 2009 I use these and the Strike King Shadalicious (which are the same bait) and have had great luck on the 4.5" I take them out of the package and boil them for a couple seconds. Gets rid of the smell and softens them up. I have one that I have caught 16 fish on and still counting. I use the bellyweighted EWG hooks, not the screw in hooks and the head stays in tact longer. Add your favorite scent such as Megastrike to increase the odds. Quote
BriBass Posted April 19, 2009 Posted April 19, 2009 I use these and the Strike King Shadalicious (which are the same bait) and have had great luck on the 4.5" Wat hook and how heavy do you use with those? i can get the 3.5'' size to work great but not the 4.5'' BB Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted April 20, 2009 Author Super User Posted April 20, 2009 I'm using the 4.5" size, with a 7/0 Stanley Frog/Swimbait Hook 3/8 oz. I also am using a #6 treble hook on the belly. Falcon Quote
Super User CWB Posted April 20, 2009 Super User Posted April 20, 2009 On the 4.5", I use a 5/0 Gammie 1/8 oz. weighted hook. I would drop down to 4/0 or 3/0 on 3.5" Quote

How long do you boil them for? i am about to give up on these anyway, I had faith that they would work for me and gave them a lot of chance last year and this year with not a single bite....I was throwing it again for an hr yesterday with nothing then threw a spinnerbait to the same area and got a 16 incher so, maybe i need to boil that smell out of em...... jacker Posted April 20, 2009 Posted April 20, 2009 I have been very succesful with all of those types of bass magic, shadalicious, money minnow etc type baits. I was skeptical at first about swimbaits in general but one of my fishin buddies showed my how to use them and wow! very good for high pressured fish. I weedless rig them with a big weighted tube hook or swimbait hook and swim them very slowly bumping into EVERY BIT OF COVER I CAN. I have gotten very few hits if i dont tap them into anything on the way back, but many time as soon as it even ticks a twig in the water THUMP! They seem to bend and kinda bounce back and shake when you run it into junk in the water. I like the mid sized ones the best, i think they are like 4 or 5 inches long. Ive also done good with the biggest size, bigger but fewer fish. Quote

Maybe for 10-20 seconds. Be sure to use scent also. Quote
