jbomar3771 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 what is your best lure for flippin into thick mat like cover where u have to just drop it down into tho holes? Quote
Bryant. Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I like to use a reaction innovations sweet beaver in either the smallie or regular version. It slides through the vegetation very well with a big flippin weight pegged on the line. Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 Nothing beats dropping a senko into the thick stuff. (T-rigged) I like using the longest one I can. (7" BPS Stik-0) Sneak up and drop or show off with distance pin-point casting. This is one way of fishing where accurate casts can be the difference between the hogs or getting skunked. I like using spinning gear becuase I'm more acurate with it than casting, but thats just me. Also, running a SPRO Frog over the top can land some lunkers. Quote
Super User Catt Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 Oldham's Lures Trailer Hitch Jig, 1/2 oz Black/Blue, Gene Larew Salty Hawg Craws in 6 with 1 ½ cut off the tail Quote
stumpyfd Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 paca craw by netbait. or the new okachobee rig. Quote
CJ Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I flipped the mats for a week or so down on Toho and I used a Zoom Lil' Craw t-rigged and pegged on a 1 1/4 oz. tungten penatrater. The first time a fish grabbed it I thought I was hung up.Dang that was fun. Quote
basspro48 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 When faced with moderately thick mats I like a 3/4oz Terminator Grass jig in watermelon or junebug, but when I need to get through the real heavy mats I like a Reaction Innovations sweet beaver or smallie beaver with a 1 1/4oz tungsten weight. Also, don't forget about running a Stanley Ribbit over the mat a few times, there is nothing sweeter than setting the hook into a hawg that just slurped your frog down. Quote
Bass XL Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 It would have to be a brush hog. I cought my PB on that doing the exact same thing. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted February 13, 2007 Super User Posted February 13, 2007 I typicly like a big 3/4 or 1/2 oz. jig w/trailer for mats, but when I do opt for t-rigged plastics my new favorite is the yum wooly bug Quote
Johanv Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I use a Senko t-rigged on grass and lily pads or a Horne toad weightless over the top. Or if the grass is just under the water lever I run a chatterbait over the top and dam is that fun Quote
gatrboy53 Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 gambler b.b. cricket in black/ blue w/ silver flake Quote
jigfisherman Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I use a 1oz or 1 1/2oz jig at Guntersville in late July fishing the tthick stuff. Quote
Guest avid Posted February 13, 2007 Posted February 13, 2007 I think a heavy weighted senko will go through the cleanest. tubes are good too. But the beaver baits are a classic that works really well. I'll go as high as 1.5 ounces. It's not my strong point but it works for me pretty well. Quote
