StuntDouble Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Hey all, just wanted to post and give a little intro. Its taken me the last two hours or so to go through all the FAQ's get caught up on stickies, the latest posts and then get registered. Anyways, I was fishing crappie on some TVA water with my grandpa a few months ago, we had some nightcrawlers on slip bobbers and where catching a few here and there and then all of a sudden WHAM I caught a 4lb LMB. I have been hooked (no pun intended) ever since. I have fished (in the generic form of the word) with friends and family off and on since I was little. Never targetting any specific species just fishing. But ever since the TVA awakening I have become a little, no very obsessed with targetting LMB. I have been reading (Rolland Martins "101 Secrets" and magazine articles) and watching every thing I can find and after learning a new technique I go out and buy stuff, I believe this is the "bait monkey" that is getting me. Now I can't go to Gander Mtn. or Wally world without buying somthing. Well, I believe all of you know how I am feeling. I did not go out looking for yet another hobby but it looks like I have found a complete infatuation with a fish. :'( Quote
rondef Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 to the forum. Watch out that bait monkey can get out of control and steal all of you money. Quote

Eddie Munster Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Welcome aboard man. I can't believe how much I've had to drop just getting a decent tackle box going again and getting my little Pond Prowler outfitted. Luckily, my wife enjoys fishing but doesn't go much. I steer her towards really good stuff that I can use when she's not going. Quote
MbBass Posted July 28, 2008 Posted July 28, 2008 Buddy i feel your pain . And i to was just fishing and not expecting to catch anything . And then wham 4 lb'er . I was like dang . I was fishing with a zebco and a fish eagle 5 ft rod light action . This was in november of last year . Boy has things changed . I went back with no luck , and decided to read and know as much as possible about the sunfish family . That led me to this site . I read and read untill my eyes felt like they were bleeding . Learn there eating habits what they like to eat when they spawn post spawn , summer habbits , etc etc. In other words fishing must be like crack cause i am hooked . I have been surfing since i was 8 and now i am 33 . My wife and kids fish with me . And i am trying to teach kids how to fish around where i live . As for what kind of baits to get let me tell you if you try anything try weightless senkos . Put a 2/0 hook make it a red hook . Gives off a sign that it maybe injured or bleeding . Always go sented plastics and it will help you catch more . But as always know what is in the area you fish as far as what LMB are eating . I am sure you will get other tips cause every1 is great on this forum i am just now joining so i can give my 2 cents worth . Have a good one and good fishing to ya Quote

JCrzy4Bass Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Hey stunt, couldn't help but notice your from the best state on the east coast for bass ;D... ok maybe that's a bit far fetched, but we got some great water for bass in Va. Whereabouts are you in Virginia anyway?!?!? If you are in central and or northern there are a ton of guys that post frequently in the southeast section of the forum. There are also lots of us always looking for regional fishing buddies, so keep an eye out. If you're ever in the Woodbridge/Dumfries area of Virginia hit me up and maybe we can head out together. I fish the Occoquan and Potomac by boat and typically wade the Rappahannock, James and Rapidan rivers. I also frequent a good many lakes and ponds in the area, so if you're ever looking for info or help as to waters around there hit me up. Quote

StuntDouble Posted July 29, 2008 Author Posted July 29, 2008 Hey all, I appreciate the warm welcoming. These links go for ever, so much info. I have been using the search tool and have found tons of great tips. JCrzy, I work in Fairfax but just moved out to the Winchester area. I have meesed around at Burke Lake, according to VDGIF it is statisticly the most dense lake in the state for LMB. ?? I will start to frequent the southeast section, I would like to tag along with people that know what they are doing. I will have to take you up on your offer, Thanks! Thank you all again for the warm welcoming and I look forward to opening up your brains for the pickin! Quote
Aaron Posted July 29, 2008 Posted July 29, 2008 Welcome aboard. That is about the same way I got into bass fishing. I fished when I was younger just hoping to catch anything. THen one summer a friend of mine got me throwing bass lures and I hooked into a 3# LM and have been "hooked" since. THe transition from ugly sticks and cheap reels to loomis's, curados, and calcuttas is a fun but expensive journey. Quote
StuntDouble Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 That is exactly what I have been using, Shakespeare Ugly Stick Fishing Rod Reel :-[ , gift from my mother in law. Maybe I should not say that out loud?? Oh well, we all start some where. Quote

Maybe I should not say that out loud?? Oh well, we all start some where. Bah, not a bad rod/reel combo for the average person. My 16 yr old daughter just bought that combo from Wally World with her own $$. (I chipped in $10 of it). If you're catching fish with it, don't worry about it. Rather spend several hundred dollars on lures, glasses, etc and keep fishing with my $70.00 combo than to drop all that on a rod or reel. Think I spent $35.00 on the rod/reel combo at Wally World that landed that 8 pounder in my avatar. Quote
