lure junkie Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 first things first, the site is absolutely top drawer, hands down. i live just outside of chicago in the nw suburbs. get out fishin' as much as i can. pretty serious about the game, keep up with latest info, techniques, and what not. but i do have a hookset question. i seem to hook alot of fish in the eyeball area when using soft plastics, jigs and the like. generally use more of a horizontal sweepset, but equal results with 3/4 set or overhead. is this a angle game based on the direction the fish is headed,or a mechanics issue? thanx in advance for the help and advice. Bassnbrett101 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 lol, I'm just worried about hooksets. I also hook alot in that area, I think its just how the fish takes the bait. I don't think there's anyway to prevent it, but I could be wrong Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted May 22, 2008 Super User Posted May 22, 2008 Welcome to the best fishing site on the net. I also hook a few fish in that area, but have no explanation. Falcon Quote

Popeye Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Welcome to the BR Forums - the PREMIER bass fishing site on the Net, IMO! I'd say your hooksets are a result of timing (when you're setting the hook) and the way the fish is orientated when it occurs. Just my thoughts on that issue. Some of the more knowledgeable BR members may have better info on that. BTW: my Mom, 3 brothers, and sister all live in the Kankakee area:o) Quote
MaxDal Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Welcome ! For a first choice you couldn't have done better than choosing this particular place. It rocks ! As for your hooksets problem, well it happens with small fish. Quote
Super User fishfordollars Posted May 22, 2008 Super User Posted May 22, 2008 Welcome. Just get the hook in them, and then put them in the boat.. Quote
Hawghead Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Lure junkie, I reckon the fish will just keep an eye out for ya from now own..... 8-) : I know I know...... Quote
skillet Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Don't really think the hookset thing is about angles. Like Maxdal said, it happens and usually to smaller fish. WELCOME to the forums!!! As Ever, skillet Quote
