first things first, the site is absolutely top drawer, hands down. i live just outside of chicago in the nw suburbs. get out fishin' as much as i can. pretty serious about the game, keep up with latest info, techniques, and what not. but i do have a hookset question. i seem to hook alot of fish in the eyeball area  when using soft plastics, jigs and the like. generally use more of a horizontal sweepset, but equal results with 3/4 set or overhead. is this a angle game based on the direction the fish is headed,or a mechanics issue? thanx in advance for the help and advice.

lol, I'm just worried about hooksets.  I also hook alot in that area, I think its just how the fish takes the bait.  I don't think there's anyway to prevent it, but I could be wrong

Welcome to the best fishing site on the net.

I also hook a few fish in that area, but have no explanation.

Welcome to the BR Forums - the PREMIER bass fishing site on the Net, IMO!  I'd say your hooksets are a result of timing (when you're setting the hook) and the way the fish is orientated when it occurs. Just my thoughts on that issue. Some of the more knowledgeable BR members may have better info on that.

BTW: my Mom, 3 brothers, and sister all live in the Kankakee area:o)

Welcome !

For a first choice you couldn't have done better than choosing this particular place. It rocks !

As for your hooksets problem, well it happens with small fish.

Don't really think the hookset thing is about angles. Like Maxdal said, it happens :( and usually to smaller fish. WELCOME to the forums!!!
