B-Ass-Mad Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Horny toad is a good idea, you could try a ribbit high floater also. A small Booyah pond magic would work well. Try a baby brush hog fished weightless & weedless also. Quote
Daiwa Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 Welcome, try a bug looking top water. The splash is cool too. Quote
thetr20one Posted May 11, 2008 Posted May 11, 2008 WELCOME!! I am from NEO what lake are you fishing ? Is it private? Quote

Super User Alpster Posted May 12, 2008 Super User Posted May 12, 2008 Try casting a senko or t-rigged worm onto a pad at the edge of the bunch. Let it set there for a minute until all is very calm. Gently drag it off and let it fall off the edge of the lily pad. Watch for the strike on the fall. to the forums. Ronnie Quote

wisturkeyhunter Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Senko or other good plastics rigged weedless and weightless casted onto a pad then slowy pulled off into a hole and worked back slowly. Watch your line for either steady pulls or a fast twitch put your rod tip down to give the fish more room then when it gets light again set the hook. Keep your rod tip high and tail walkem outta there. Or use a top water baits like a spook and work it slow in a hole in the pads or on the edge. When a bass hits a top water bait don't set the hook right away give it a little time to turn and swim with it then letem have it. One more productive things is find the edge or the pads and work it with spinnerbaits, crankbaits and plastics. Good luck. Quote
Popeye Posted May 12, 2008 Posted May 12, 2008 Welcome to the BR Forums - the PREMIER bass fishing site on the Net, IMO. Your pond should have a few hawgs in there for you! Quote
paragon Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 welcome, you sure came to the right place for advice. Quote
little_stephen Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 I guess i should have been a little more specific...... I love my poppers, Im not the best with them, but Ive gotten hits on them. Ive just been getting into frogin. So far the bigfoot floaters are my favorite becase I can twitch and pause them and they stay on top. Ive got jigs..... how do I use them in those pads? the senko thing never even hit me until u guys mentioned it. that sounds like a great idea! besides swiming the edges is there any use for swim baits in the application? little_stephen Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 another prob jut popped into my head, I know that getting to the pads before sun up and staying as the sun sets is the ticket to getting the big ones on top waters..... problem being, I have no boat, no canoe, no kyhak, no nothing..... and the marina isnt open early enough, and i have to have the boats in one hour before closing, which is almost an hour before the sun even starts to go down, the one chunk of pads i can get to is a favorite local shore fishing spot, so yes I can get to it early and "claim" it but its a high pressure spot, and is rarely productive. not to mention, its hard to get into the pads from that spot. theyre a little too far out to productivly cover any water...... solutions!? (I need a friend with a boat! lol) Quote
BirdNestBen Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 I've seen some great advice on here... one person really talked about fishing a spot thoroughly and then moving to the next area..... You haven't caught fish here yet, so you have no really good spots yet is the obvious problem.... I like using the frog by the lilly pads- this may be a top spot!!! I'd try the frog some and also really hammer these lures because they will produce.... 1. zoom super fluke- watermelon seed, pearl 2. senko 3. berkley powerworm Fish an area and only when you've really worked it over do you move down a bit further.... Obviously casting distance is critical off the bank, so make sure you can really get the lure out there.... Down here in Texas, the water is nice and warm so I do wade out about waist deep to give myself the best possible chance..... Quote
Popeye Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Possible solution to your access problem (i.e. no boat): if you can afford one, get yourself a float tube/kickboat. Extremely portable and will allow you to fish the pads from outside vice the shoreline. Have you seen anyone else use a tube on your pond?? Quote
BrockSamson Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Try a zoom horny toad across the top of those pads...and welcome to the forum. x4. Try white and black. Quote

That is what I have for a few spots that I fish. Cost me 70 bucks and is tough as nails (took it down my local creek that is filled with rocks). If the wind kicks up than invest in an anchor and some line for about 20 bucks. Boom...your in business. Quote
formulagamble Posted May 13, 2008 Posted May 13, 2008 Welcome!!....I bank fish alot. I wade also, sometimes without wadders. If you cant get to the pads or somehow behind them from bank try other spots like points, creek channels, submerge trees. As far as frogs go....I got the Rage-Tail and I've only used once and it was mid-day just throwing to see what it would look like. Quote

little_stephen Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 nope... the rangers really let anyone who gets in the water have it but ill look into it. the other problem there is that I have a tendency to change gear alot..... and i just take alot with me in general. so I cant really go too far past the shore, as sad as it is, theres alot of punk kids who wander the trails and like to mess with peoples stuff. :-/ Quote
