Bass_Fanatic Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 My buddy and I used to cut Zoom Centapedes in half, put them on a 3/0 weigthless hook and go to a 100 acre lake we own. The lake was full of grass and full of huge bullfrogs. We would cast the centapede on top of the grass and twitch it and a bullfrog would come hopping over and eat it. Set the hook and the battle was on, these things would take drag and everything. Anyways, one day my cousin hooked one and he was jumping on top of the grass and all of a sudden a HUGE splash around the frog and his reel started stripping line. He fought that thing for what seemed like an hour. Ended up being about a 9 foot gator. 65lb Suffix braid is some BAD stuff!! I'd say you win this thread. that's one big gator. Too bad you didn't video it, make a great commercial for Suffix. ;D Yup...I would have alot of good footage for a Suffix commercial. One time while fish Lake Fork I had a herron eat my chug bug and I didn't want to reel her in, so I let him take some drag and he flew into her nest in the top of a tree in the middle of Dale Creek. Apparently she was feeding her babies cuz when I finally jerked, the whole 20 ft. tree came down, along with the nest and I reeled in a baby herron. And that was with 12 lb Seige!! :-? Sorry I couln't resist... Perhaps "he" was the chug bug and "she" was the heron. Or vice versa. Haha...sorry I wrote it with all male pronouns, then thought about it, realized it had to be a her, and went back and changed em. I guess I missed a couple. :-/ Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted January 28, 2011 Super User Posted January 28, 2011 You know farmpond 1, you're right, I didn't think of it that way...ROFL Bass_fanatic, I think you're covered, he did fly into her nest. ;D Not a bad thing... Quote

fishindrew Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 when I was 13 or 14, I got my lure stuck on what appeared to be a log sticking out of the water. I waded in to get my lure back to find out that the log was the corner of a trash bag. I dragged it back onto shore and for some reason opened it. it was some kind of dog. nothing left of it but bone and fur. looked like a German Shepard. Quote

kms399 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 a net, pair of sunglasses like elton john would wear in the boundry waters, caught the but section of a fenwick rod once. Quote
Incheon Basser Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I caught a deck umbrella once, pulled it out from undera dock while skippin docks Quote
paangler3117 Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 ultralight ugly stick, reel was junk, but the rod cleaned up like new! (it's the wifes trout rod now!) caught a 9/16 craftsman wrench on a crankbait once. Hooked it through the box end! made repeated casts in case there was a whole tool box there but no luck! Jim Quote
Super User SirSnookalot Posted January 30, 2011 Super User Posted January 30, 2011 Yes it's a fish ( trumpet fish ) ! One of the strangest I have ever seen, in fact I have caught 2 of them. Quote
JamesH Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 ^^^^ that thing up there^^^^^ Is awesome! Do they put up much of a fight? Quote

Brent1 Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 Was fishing for catfish off a neighborhood dock at my friends place and pulled in the grill insert from a small Weber Grill.. Later hooked the lid of the grill but it fell off before I could grab it. Quote
Luke at Gouldsboro Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I was fishing at dusk one day and on a cast, I hooked a brown bat that was flying over the lake feeding on insects. That was a fun fight, but it sucked getting him off a treble hook. Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 A golf flag...but then again I've only been fishing for a year. Hopefully I can catch something more interesting down the road. No dead animals though :-/ Quote
Beastie Bass Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 I have also landed the elusive brown bat! I noticed that when I made a cast, bats would swoop down closer and closer. My buddy was REALLY freaking out! When I started waving my rod in a figure 8 motion in the air, they got closer! They were attracted to the sound of my line whistling. I did this for a few minutes, enjoying watching my buddy squirm on the bottom of the boat. I finally quit and when I made a cast my lure only flew about 6 feet and BAM! I should have taped the whole thing because I was 30 at the time and my fishing partner was 48, but he was screaming like a 16 yr old girl! aaah goood times! Quote
Ineedanewscreenname20170204 Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 While charter boat fishing in San Diego I caught a California Sea Lion (cut the line naturally as it was like 800 pounds and not happy) and a big white bird that dove 20+ feet down to munch on the live fish I was using. Also reeled in a condom once - yuck... Quote
Stasher1 Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 I've caught various items of clothing, various lures, a few turtles, and a big ol' bullfrog while fly fishing, but the weirdest thing was a nasty swollen discarded plastic worm on a DT6. It wouldn't have been a big deal if it hadn't been flesh-colored... 1 Quote
FL_Sharpshooter Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Last week I reeled in a pillow case filled with about 20lbs of mud with a lipless crank. Talk about awkward... Quote
scrutch Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 While fishing in the river, I snagged the head of a dead 10 point buck. Got it to the boat and all that was left was the head and two front legs. Took the antlers and mounted them on the front of my 1974 Cadillac. (ok, so I embellished it a little on the last part. I don't really have a Caddy. It just popped into my head and I couldn't resist.) Quote
