Intrepid Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 i want to learn to fish with jigs and cranks. i bought several new cranks on sale over the winter, and bought my first jigs with baby rage craws to use for trailers. this will be the first time ive tried rage tale products as well, ive read many good things about them. id also like to improve the amount of bites i get on top water, i can hook them i just cant draw the bite as often as id like. is also like to fish more, of course(wouldnt everyone?). PondBoss Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Catch the new state record Largemouth. Currently the state record is 14-11 3/4, I know one of the bodies of water I fish has a handful of fish that big in it and a couple that are bigger. That will be my goal every year until I do it. lol Other than that rather lofty goal I'd say fish crank baits more. Quote
Fishmaster10 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 -Win some tournaments -Learn how to fish a dropshot rig -Beat my pb largemouth Quote
hootersdoug Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 learn how to use my baitcaster. I have a curado which I can throw better that when I first got it, but still have to work on accuracy and length of casts. I suck with it currently and cannot figure out why other fishermen say that they are way better than spinning rigs. Maybe I will find out???? Quote
Fishing Cowgirl Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Get more time out on the water. Catch a 10 lber or at least improve my personal best. Catch a fish on a Jig. Quote
amankopf Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 my goal is to get better with cranks and dropshot rig Quote
BassThumb Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 My goals this season are to get a better feel for fishing the dropshot and gain some confidence in the rig, and also to spend more time pitching and flipping soft plastics instead of always jigs, jigs, jigs. Quote
kennyo Posted April 22, 2011 Posted April 22, 2011 My goal was to learn to fish with the jig and pig... I caught my 1st fish on it this year, and as of yesterday I've caught 24 bass on the jig and pig (including the one in my avatar). Now my goal is to get a new P.B. on the jig. Quote
wisconsin heat Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 gotta break my personal best, only about 18 1/2 inches so with some big bass attitude shouldnt be too hard. Quote
TheLastRodBender Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 Flippin/Pitchin - never really did it much, want to get better at it Jigs/creatures - this kind of goes hand in hand with the first one, but these are castable as well Quote
Big-B_2579 Posted April 23, 2011 Posted April 23, 2011 This was a great post. I always find it interesting to hear what everyone else is doing/not doing in comparison with myself. Isn't it absolutely amazing how this wonderful sport of bass fishing brings all of us together in one way or another. Never ceases to baffle me. As for myself , pretty close to the O/P . Spent a lot of money on cranks this year , and really gonna focus in on cranking. Also gonna try to get better with my jigs and try (again) drop-shottin'. Just can't quite get the feel for the drop shot. Quote
BlackBass19 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 Learn to use the baitcaster in all situations. This goes hand in hand with the jig-n-pig, crankbaits and frogs. Quote
MJB_215 Posted April 25, 2011 Posted April 25, 2011 I just want to get out and fish as much as possible. I would also like to find some new fishing holes. Quote
Mushraeddur Posted April 26, 2011 Posted April 26, 2011 My goal is to learn how to bass fish. I've only ever fished worm and bobber or sinker. I bought a curado 200e7 some spinner baits, buzzbaits, rattle baits and lipped baits. I've never fished with any of these baits. My goal is to become compitant enough to catch me some bass...for fun and good eats Quote
Mushraeddur Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 Well, i caught my first bass on a spinner lure! It was the only bite/catch i had, but it's a step in the right direction! I now know i can catch a bass with a lure! Quote
Fat-G Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I want to dial in to the art of "big fish hunting". I catch a lot of 3-5 pounders, which are really fun and I feel blessed with every one, but I want to be able to catch a BIG fish on a pretty regular basis. For me, a 5 pounder is a "nice" fish, a 6-8 pounder is a "big" fish, and a 9+ would be a monster. Quote
Fat-G Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 My all-around goals: Fish some new ponds (already doing it!). Learn to finesse fish (dropshot, shakey head) because all I ever do is flip, pitch, and throw huge plastics! Get out in a boat more. Catch a 25 pound limit in one day. Hookingem and I came very close earlier this year with a ~23 pound bag. Quote
kms399 Posted May 2, 2011 Posted May 2, 2011 I've decided to simplify my approach to fishing this year. I'm getting rid of a lot of the excess crap in my boat, and focusing on my strengths. that is sound wisdom! I have been so focused on trying new techniques and methods that even my little brother catches more fish than me. I am going stick with what works and get better at it than everyone else. HA! Quote
basser22 Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 stop using plastics so much and working on jigs and spinnerbaits more Quote
guilford Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I'am going to give spinnerbaits more time and build confidence in them. Also moving away from shore this summer and fish deeper structure with whatever cover is holding the bass there. Quote
Jim McC Posted May 3, 2011 Posted May 3, 2011 I just like to get out, relax, catch some fish and not drown. Quote
