WanderLust Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Congrats! Baitcasting tackle is a lot of fun once you get used to it. The thumb trick works pretty well on some lines, tough lines like copoly especially, but it hardly works on braid and I've broken fluorocarbon line on the spool with it before. I would recommend doing it as little as possible with fluoro, or not at all. I find this to be accurate... Lighter fluoro in general is real pain to pick out regardless and kinks are the kiss of death. Roll casting, handle up are all good points. If you need to overhand cast for whatever reason, make sure the handle goes to you shoulder and its a smooth, fluid motion. If you want to use the thumb trick as DVT pointed out, your drag must be tightened down. Well d**n that sucks! I'll always be using flouro on my baitcasting reels. It depends on the line qualities as well. Just add it to the arsenal and use when applicable. Thankfully with quality gear and some practice issues happen much less frequently. Keep friends and family away from the gear. Nothing says RAGE like your buddy samurai sword casting your lightweight setup with Tatsu on it; then handing it back with a nest that would make an Eagle proud. Quote
