SENKOSAM Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Flooding is everywhere, even places that rarely get flooded and the forecast is for more rain Wed. pm into Thurs. One thing is for sure - the pre-spawn bite way back into the wetlands and adjacent shallows in my local lake is going to be spectacular starting in late March to April 1st! The lake is usually not deeper than 13' and averages 9'. The various spawns of different species draw prespawn bass into 5' before the weeds begin to emerge and then 2-3' once they do. The three stages of spawn occur from April to May and the more water in the lake the better for bass and pickerel to roam the shallows. Are any of the lakes near you similar in seasonal pattern? Super User J Francho Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 Weird, all we got was snow. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 8, 2011 Super User Posted March 8, 2011 We're just starting to ice out, but last year we got flooding conditions around this time and iced out all our waters as well as providing warmer waters to quickly activate the bass to the seasonal pattern you've posted here. We'll see what happens this year. Quote
Senkoman12 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Weird, all we got was snow. surprisingly just north of syracuse only got like 6" over the weekend. im ready for the snow to go Quote
SENKOSAM Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Crap! More rain starting tonight, ending Friday. Some flooded roads will again be closed if we get another 2". I didn't mind it when I was stationed in Texas. After heavy rains we used to net walking catfish swimming across the road from over flowing streams. Weirdest thing I ever saw... (other than armadillos, scorpions and tornados. ) Quote
Smiths.R Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I'm in Maryland, and we're getting slammed with rain. The good news is that it's about 50 degree's out, so the water is nice and warm, and this weekend is supposed to be in the sixties. I think that the bass might start moving soon. I'll certainly be out there to greet them. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Yah, in michigan, we got poured on a bit. Mostly melted the snow (YAY!). But looked at the forecast and now my area is supposed to get like 4 more inches of snow... > Quote

Here in Kalamazoo(KVDs homwtown FYI 8-)), we have been getting a little bit of melted snow..some rain. The ice is just starting to melt. But not fast enough!!!.. Quote
bassnleo Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 We received rain since yesterday, and it's still raining. Slated to turn to snow tonight and dump 6-10 inches before Friday night. I'd venture to say that when the lakes do thaw, they'll be high. A local lake we hit when the ice goes is notorious for a Spring shoreline flippin bite. If the water rises as I think it will, the flippin bite will be tough. There will be so much flooded cover on the shorlines (trees, bushes, etc..) that the fish will be scattered and way back in, often in places that cannot be reached by boat due to thickness. It does make for neat exploring though . Quote

NY_ANGLERS Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 I'm right on the Deleware out side Port Jervis and the river is about 10 foot high right now. All the local streams and rivers are at flood stage. Trout season in only 21 days. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted March 12, 2011 Super User Posted March 12, 2011 Went from 10' of snow banks to none. Starting to see open water... YAAAAH HOOOH Got some more warming rain trends, so we'll see what happens! Quote

Super User bigbill Posted March 12, 2011 Super User Posted March 12, 2011 With all the wet weather all winter(snow and lots of it) in the northeast(CT) and all the rain were having now it just maybe a rough start to fishing in the spring. I been worried about the winter kill with so much ice cover for so long now. Its mother natures way of controlling the over population. We did have a really bad winter kill about 10 years ago here. There was big bass frozen in the ice all over the place seen while ice fishing. Quote

Still have ice on the lake I live on,edges are open a bit. I think the runoff from the roads with their sand/salt will cause problem, combined with soil/septic overflow. There are house around with water half way up their front door. It's crazy for sure. Quote
