Skeet22 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Myself. I am a competition junky..I have competed in something my whole life so when I'm not involved in some type of competition sport I feel lost..I primarily raced my whole life starting with go-karts when I was 9 years old up until racing dirt late models a couple years ago. The mental competition sports is what interest me the most as my fat butt does not have the physical attributes to compete at much. When I got married and decided to build a house and have a couple kids I did not have the time it takes to compete at a high level in racing. If I cant give something 100% and put myself in position to compete with the best I just rather not do it. I turned to Bass fishing to keep me sane and really got hooked on the mental side of Bass Fishing. I grew up saltwater fishing and still do from time to time but to me there is nothing like Bass Fishing. It's the challenge of figuring them out and all the techniques used to catch them that interests me. I joined a club to satisfy my competition craving while doing something I love. When I feel I learn enough and have the time to step it up to the next level I want to fish some Bassmaster opens and see where that goes. My ultimate goal is to win one. may be a long shot but we have to shoot for something right? Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted March 1, 2011 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted March 1, 2011 Myself. Especially when I'm trying to put my sons or a friend on some fish, not to impress, just so they can experience the fun of it. TJ Right on the money...With my kids or nephews there is tons of pressure to put them on fish. Nothing more satisfying than the smile on there face with a big fish. Quote

hookingem Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I'm always pushing myself to get better, but working at a tackle shop I like to know a little bit about everything so I guess that has pushed me a little to become more knowledgeable about saltwater fishing. Quote
Dalton Tam Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 My entire family.... they have always backed me in every tournament and always given me faith, even when I had little myself. Quote

wisconsin heat Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 hmmm myself, i'm always scanning the internet, reading magazines and books, i fish as much as possible, i also consider myself to be very smart, on and off the water. never fished a tournament.... yet. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 The fish. No one can motivate you. They can however, inspire you. Motivation comes from within yourself. I think Ricky Clunn said that. If he didn't, he should have. Quote

I'm always doing the same. Constantly researching new techniques and bass behavior. If I'm not out fishing, I'm reading about it or watching videos about it. Quote

AndyPlaysDrums Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 My time not at the water seems to motivate and push me. Usually, I'm lurking here or reading some various magazine trying to figure out what my next move will be when I get back to the water. Quote
luv2fish33 Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 All the hawgs that got away ;D...But they have made for some great fishing stories Quote
unclejed Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 My 14 year old son actually pushes me to get better. He learns so much so quickly. He's already better at flippin' and pitchin'. He stands out on the picnic table and practises. I just can't let him out fish "the ol' man" already. We have a lot of fun pushing eachother. Quote
BassinBoy Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Myself or a fishing partner that is catching more than I am Quote

Super User Sam Posted March 3, 2011 Super User Posted March 3, 2011 Myself. However, I fish for relaxation and fun, even in tournaments, so pushing myself is not something I do other than for business purposes. Quote
marinetech Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 This is a good topic. I love to catch bass , I am expanding my techniques this year and really looking forward to all the new tackle. I do not really get motivated by anyone. I seem to always get fish but really enjoy seeing who ever is in the back of my boat have a great time. My fishing partner is pretty proud of himself when he catches more than me. I always make sure if I am up a bunch of fish to pull up to a good spot and let him throw a few casts first. My enjoyment comes from knowing I had alot to do with teaching him to be a better fisherman and all the different baits to try. Quote
FL_Sharpshooter Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 I think I almost like learning new techniques and using them more than I enjoy actually catching fish. I love bass fishing because its you vs. outsmarting the bass. It's one big mind game. My heroes KVD and Denny Brauer are really just further encouragement to want to learn all of those things. You still have to have a passion to want to learn. Quote
Scorcher214 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 KVD is a cool guy, but i wouldn't say he pushes me to be a better fisherman. More like what is pushing me. I would like to get into some tournaments. I like competition and hey, winning some money, would be nice. Quote
Carrington Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 myself... If you want to be the best then you dont need anyone to push you. Quote
