If you are a collector or for nostalgia. It would be nice to have one signed if you were a collector. I am not a collector. I bought one of the 1.5 and 2.5 because I was adding to my crank arsenal this year anyway and I liked the color. H2O baits (Academy) makes a similiar color, and it worked well. Plus they were 20% off at Dicks this week!!!

Why does everyone buy the lures that win The Classic

First: "everybody" .... but don 't include me in the "everybody"

Second: why ? .... because there 's a big bunch of people ( aka: everybody ) that think/believe/hope having the bait Mr KVD used to win the Classic is going to help or solve the problem of catching fish for them. The perpetual quest for the magic bullet.

Like someone said: win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

The BaitMonkey loves herds.

Well said, Raul.  I've never bought a bait because someone won a tournament with it.

Those who truly don't understand the game will fall victim to the new shiny toy, believing it will up their catch ratio.

If you ask me...I think pretty much all lures will work, anglers who do know how to play the game, knows when, where, & the tricks to use them.

My younger bro fell into the "Sexy Shad" trap when it first came out hard after KVD's success. Bought a set @ Bass Pro Shops...no success with them. I told him it didn't matter if he didn't know when or where to use them.

Your knowledge is the most important lure.

One might as well ask "Why has Nike paid such lucrative contracts to Tiger Woods and Michelle Wie to wear their logos?"

The answer to that is the same as the answer to the title of this thread, because a large enough percent of the consumers in any sport think they will do better, or, they are groupies, wanting to emulate winners.

Who knows? Maybe KVD would have caught more fish with a wood clothespin adorned with feathered treble hooks.

Fishing Rhino I have no doubt that if KVD had only a wooden clothes pin bait, he would figure out how to get it in the proper zone and find a technique that would catch fish. There was thread a week or two ago asking whether you would take KVD or the field in the Classic. I said the field. Fortunately no money was lost. ::) The man is simply money. I don't have "bait ***" but I am in awe of the skills and desire he has.

Even those of us that don't much like crank baits know that shallow running square billed, and deep diving cranks work under the right conditions. There wasn't a man out there that didn't have some square billed baits (probably the identical ones used by KVD) in his boat. The magic of winning will convince many that it was the specific bait. If Bandit Lures were paying the bills , do you think KVD could have won with a 100 series square bill?

I was wanting to get a couple before he won the Classic.  They are lower priced than most others out there.  I held off because I haven't had great success with SK cranks at all, and I'm scared this one will be just as bad.

Now I'm afraid everybody will make fun of me if I buy one!! :P

Actually, it won 't help you catch more fish if you only purchase the square bill, you need to purchase:

Quantum KVD signature reel and rod

BPS lure kit with KVD "secret" colors

KVD 's RedEye Shads

BPS Strike King KVD Shexy Shad lure kit

Them KVD sneakers

Add, Strike King KVD sinnerbait

and other KVD stuff.

Then you 'll be KVDesque enough to feel you are KVD ... you catching fish like he does ---> that 's another story.

I'm new to the whole forum thing (it's been a long winter), so I really don't know, but I have to wonder if the same kind of talk was going around last year about the red eye shad. Was it, "just another lipless" until people actually tried it? My 14 year old son bought some of these new KVD squarebills several weeks ago and he told me then, "If KVD wins the classic this year, this is what he will be throwing." Ofcoarse he just figured that's what would be said, no matter what. But anyway, I just wonder if next year people will be singing the praises of the new KVD squarebill.

Maybe they weren't sure how to use it.  Maybe they weren't ever exposed to it.  It's a good starting point for people to learn a new technique.  Why must you all think that it's such a terrible thing?  You all seem to be on your high horses, showing how you don't go out and buy things, and making those who do seem like they're not worth a lick at fishing.  Why not let others enjoy fishing, however they would like to go at it.  Fishing has always been, and will always be, fun, why can't they do what makes fishing fun to them, or makes them feel like they know something, even if they don't.   They're not on this site saying they know everything in the world about fishing (though this is the first thread I've read today, so they may be) because they bought the lure that won the classic, they're just fishing.

Don't forget everyone here is entitled to their opinions , pro and con alike. So don't get too excited.

KVD was talking about them on the radio this morning. Now everyone is sold out. I've got a couple I can send you, but you'll have to change the hooks out.

KVD like most other top notch anglers that WIN tournaments and have a following will sell products just like the latest pop singer releasing the latest perfume! That being said, I know from what KVD said is that he actually helps in the process of designing the lure before it comes to market.  So, if a guy that can out fish competitors around him with his custom made lure that is owned by a mass production lure maker don't you think those who follow the sport would like to try the same lure?  KVD is a marketer's wet dream!

Don't get your BASS authorized KVD monogramed underwear in a twist.  Most of us are laughing at ourselves.

I'm just saying another side to it, regardless of if it's just having fun, someone needs to play the other side.  Like someone else said, everyone has their opinions, I'm saying mine.

So true.  Especially the highlighted part.

Right, and I get that, but that stops me from having a discussion on this why?  I'm sure in that joking was a little truth, maybe a lot of truth, and i just felt that I could state my opinion on this.
