bassin1958 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Is there a rule of thumb when when topwatr fishing as to when to use a popper or a walk the dog type bait? :-/ Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 22, 2011 Super User Posted February 22, 2011 Use both, then choose which one the fish bite. Quote

WanderLust Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 LOL - certainly use the one the fish bite. I use walk the dog type stuff to cover a larger section of water such as a weed bed and use pop-r's & prop type ones for more specific targets like brush piles, standing timber. Quote
Super User Jigfishn10 Posted February 22, 2011 Super User Posted February 22, 2011 I use the same strategy as Wanderlust. Somedays a louder chugger bait is needed and somedays a quieter dog walker is needed. If I had my way, they would nail a dog walker all day...LOL Quote

I have (2) Buzzjets on the way for this season. Topwater is so much fun. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 22, 2011 Super User Posted February 22, 2011 Pretty much what Wanderlust said, for me baits like walk the dog type and wobblers ( jitterbug ) are for covering the largest surface I can in the least amount of time, while other topwaters like poppers, chuggers and prop baits are for attacking specific points of interest, not a rule of thumb, it 's just my method and doesn 't mean that It 's the only way I do it, that can change. WanderLust Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 I lost a LC Pointer 128 to a large pike last year... Got inhaled 10 feet from shore. Watching $10 -$25 swim away makes me a sad panda. Quote
