I was fishing one of the ponds I frequent and decided to set up some temporary fish structure. During Spring this pond rises and floods some areas, the fish like to spawn these areas so I made it a little more inviting.  The water level goes up to were you see the weeds, fish like this area but it offers little structure, I set it up so I can fish it like cannels with no fear of hanging up and some brush areas for bait fish to congregate on.  Lost my knife so I couldn't do what I wanted, but I plan to go back and make sure this stuff doesn't float away once it rains heavy.  Any one have any other ideas on how I can make this area more fish friendly?  Yes, I have permission to do this.  Here's hoping for some large spawning bass this year!

i would suggest this... All of the timber you put there is vertical to the shore line. I would put some stuff going horizontal to the shore line. in the 2nd picture, maybe put some timber across the stuff thats already there, so they have something to hide in to "ambush" prey...

I'll have to do some more vertical structure, I do have one vertical structure its a small tree that had a little brush on it, I caught a 2.5-3 IB spawning bass there last year. I just through some more brush on it (its hard to see in the pic) the 3 trees in the foreground and the ones in the background flood too, though last year my boat was broke so I couldn't hit those flooded trees. The pond is still a around foot low case your wondering, forgot to mention that, but it usually floods heavily. Rather not place any thing on top so I can fish through it and I like Sight fishing.

Edit: I take that back its probably only about 8 inches low its usually up to the tree line in the background, but it usually stays flooded Feb-early may.

Add gravel or rocks.

Sink some cedar type Christmas trees.

Stick up some plastic or wood rod dowels in sets of threes and singles around the area.

Throw in a New Jersey grocery shopping cart.

Place anything there that the bass can relate to as structure so they will get close to for the heat in winter and cover the rest of the year.

If you can place two or three inches of sand along with some structure they will use the area for spawning.

Have fun!  :)

Lol that sounds great but I mean temporary, just for this spawning season I'd have a hard time with those ;) it has lousy vehicle access.

What are your plans to keep all that timber from floating away?

Looks like a scene from The Blair Witch Project. ;D

Some nice sized rocks would be nice. Looks like a secluded enough spot but did you check if it's O.K. to be doing this?

What you added is temporary cover. If you want structure add something that is permanent until you remove it like; building blocks, rock piles, weighted plastic milk boxes, weighted tires, etc. The wood will float away unless held down securely. The structure should be located on or very near a sharp break or adjacent to a spawning flat.

If you have permission try to find some larger branches (bundled) or laydowns and tie 1 or 2 cinder blocks on them, then throw them out on the points into the water, wherever you will be able to find them later.
