FL_Sharpshooter Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 My walmart doesn't carry a whole lot of good stuff. Mainly they carry some rapala cranks, they just got bill lewis rattles, a decent assortment of zoom plastics, mustad hooks, gary yamamoto senkos, and bad colors of strike king spinnerbaits. I wish they would carry rage baits/strike king cranks, but nope. Probably a good thing they don't cause my wallet would probably be a lot lighter. Quote
Super User BASSclary Posted February 8, 2011 Super User Posted February 8, 2011 They just replaced all the decent stuff (Red Eye Shads, BOOYAH Spinnerbaits, Rage Tails, etc) In my Wally World with 16" saltwater fluorescent pink swimbaits. My Bass fishing section is Luck "E" Crap worms, eagle claw hooks, and Berkeley Vanish. Quote
Super User Goose52 Posted February 8, 2011 Super User Posted February 8, 2011 Mine has the basics - nothing special. I do get many of my soft plastics there. Quote
Fish Chris Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 First off, I LOVE WAL-MART !!!!! They carry EVERYTHING good ! Shop there every week. We just had our old Wal-Mart close down, to be replaced with a brand new super Wal-Mart ! I swear I could spend $500 a week there, if I had it to spend..... But you mean > Fishing tackle ? Ya' know, I think right after the new Super Wal-Mart opened, I walked through the fishing isles once.... Might have bought some split shots. But here's the thing, we also have a big, awesome, fully stocked fishing tackle store, about 10 miles from my house, but even so, I go there about once a month, walk straight to the hooks, or weights, or whatever item(s) I need, grab them, walk straight to the counter, pay, and leave. I could walk in with $500, and walk out with $490. I don't need, nor want more tackle. Well, I could use a rod or two, and maybe a couple reels, but I'd be more likely to buy those online anyway. If it were up to me, the bait monkey would starve to death. Fish Quote
bassman018 Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Mine is pretty crappy..They have some decent trout stuff but i get most of my gear at dicks... Quote
GTrombly Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I have 10 of them within 20 miles of my house and none of them really carry anything good. Just cheap stuff. Quote
airborne_angler Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 Locally there are only 2 stores that sell any tackle. Thats WalMart and Big 5 Sporting goods. Big 5 has some decent stuff but last year they did something very odd. The Prices were all very reasonable, and then they got a wild hair up their a** and crossed all the prices off with black marker and RAISED the prices about $2-$3 on every item. They had some Culprit Spinnerbaits for $1.99 and now they are $3.99. Bass Assassin and Robo worm baits are $5.00 a bag and Senkos are $8.00 a bag. Rapala Cranks are $11.00. They do have some decent deals on spinning combos from time to time . I will continue to get my stuff from Wally World and Ebay. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 8, 2011 Super User Posted February 8, 2011 Bitsy Bug Jigs. Everytime I go there, I clean 'em out of whatever they have. These things are killer with Rage Baby Craws. Quote

Their fishing inventory doesn't really move, so just about any item you pick up will have 3 or more price tags, one on top of the other, and each with a higher price than the last. Most retailers mark their stuff down when it doesn't sell, they mark it up. : Quote
MFBAB Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I love rooting around in the clearance section at Wally, sometimes you find something you can't live without. I get a lot of marine stuff like 2 cycle oil, etc. in there too, no beating their prices. Quote
airborne_angler Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Just got back from my local WM and I was impressed to see some of the new/different stuff they are stocking: KVD 1.5 Cranks Hula Poppers/Jitterbugs Larger assortment of Rebel Hardbaits Zebco Omniflex Braided line 1 thing I dont like is the switch on some prices. We had a normal WM until this new Super Center opened up. There at the old one, they had Vicious FC line for like $4.98 a spool. Even at that price,it wasnt selling, the packaging had dust all over it. Theyve brought the vicious brand line it to the Super Center for $9 a spool now(and thats in the clearance aisle!!!) They have Yum Dingers in the regular aisle for $3 a bag and they also have it in the clearance aisle for the exact same price!!. Quote

People who know what they are looking for and know the prices of stuff dont get fooled but i bet that Someone is more likely to buy something if they see an orange sticker on it in the clearance aisle... makes sense.. Super User BASSclary Posted February 9, 2011 Super User Posted February 9, 2011 Picked up 3 packs of Rage Toads, A pack of Rage Craws, A pack of Luck "E" Crap worms, and some 2/0 Gammie RB Worm hooks for $13. 8-) Quote
Intrepid Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 my local walmarts have decent selections. ive bought a lot of clearance baits from them this winter as well. its seems the clearance boxes in the walmarts around here often are full of baits they dont typically keep on the rack at any time ever... the walmarts here usually have a good selection of plastics and lines though, some decent reels and even some decent rods from time to time. i like the $1 spinner baits as well. and often get basic hooks and sinkers there as well Quote
Super User Sam Posted February 9, 2011 Super User Posted February 9, 2011 Yes!!! My Wal-Mart has two and a half gallon plastic storage bags. Ever try to find 2 and a half gallon storage bags? Only at Wal-Mart. Quote
Super User grimlin Posted February 9, 2011 Super User Posted February 9, 2011 Just about nothing! 15 years ago the WalMart here had a great fishing department. Now it's a couple of short aisles with mostly empty hooks where merchandise should be. A few Rapalas, couple Bandits, Strike Kings......it is however where I buy my YUM Dingers at $3/bag. Same here...Yum dingers are cheaper there than anywhere else.Otherwise i probably wouldn't even bother glancing in the fishing isle. Since everything is Super Walmart now It's gone considerably downhill. :-/ Quote
SausageFingers23 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Just got back from my local WM and I was impressed to see some of the new/different stuff they are stocking: KVD 1.5 Cranks Hula Poppers/Jitterbugs I would clean them out if our Walmart's carried this stuff. Unfortunately, they only seem to carry 8" storm saltwater grubs with 4oz lead heads, rooster tails, and the occassional package of zoom salamanders. Quote
Pa Angler Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Not in the Allentown, PA area since Cabela's opened up and is less than 30 minutes away. There was a time when Wal-Mart and K-Mart had a large selection not anymore. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote
hike4steel Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Culprit, chomppers, good prices on rapalas. Quote
TourPT Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 There is a few things the wally world out here carries that I use. Strike King Shim E Stick Strike King Red Eye Shad Gamakatsu Hooks Booyah Buzzbaits If I am in a bind and need some braid right now they carry PP and Spiderwire Stealth. Don't normally use these two brands but if I need it now it will do. Also have bought back up sunglasses there and a backup Berkley Digital Scale. But really that's about all they got that is of any interest to me. Quote
Super User deaknh03 Posted February 12, 2011 Super User Posted February 12, 2011 My local wal mart usually clearances out a lot of fishing stuff during the winter, used to get tons of stuff, cheap, but not this year. They used to almost give the stuff away, jigs for .25¢, rapala jointed shad raps for .99¢, and I picked up a pinnacle reel a couple years ago for $10,original retail was $65,even tho I don't use pinnacle I couldn't pass it up. They used to almost give the stuff away, jigs for .25¢, rapala jointed shad raps for .99¢, a buck for a shad rap! thats a steal. local walmart carries the usual stuff. much more geared towards trout with rooster tails trout bait but also the usual rapalas and roboworms for better than your average prices Quote
breezy Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 My local store actually has an ok selection. A new angler could walk out with a decent setup no problem. Low end Abu Garcia, Pfleuger and Shimano reels with similar rods, Gamakatsu hooks and a decent selection of Red Eye Shads, zoom products and other misc baits. The only thing I ever get is line (Sufix mono) if I'm in a pinch and a few soft baits. Everything seems to be perpetually on sale and I usually grab a couple packs of yum dingers for $2-$3. Quote
Dave P Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Yesterday I go into the local super Wal Mart. They're clearing out a lot of the reels, so now they carry about 5 casting reels and 7 or 8 spinning reels. They've never had rods unless you want an ugly stick or Shakespeare. But, if you go around the corner, they now carry Owner hooks and Mustad KVDs...Go figure... Quote
