Morelures Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 This is "Dottie", she weighed a little over 25 pounds and would have been the new world record but she was hooked on the outside of the mouth. She was released and found dead some time later. Largest bass ever caught. Just found my own answer... I knew I had sene this Bass before. Quote
Chaz Hickcox Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 http://www.digitaljournal.com/article/254508 25lbs 1oz, foul hooked, no record, very old news. Quote

Morelures Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 "Welcome to Earth" I even had to laugh at that one, I knew I had sene this hawg before but I couldnt put my finger on it, and it was driving me nuts. Time for bed! Quote
BassShephard Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 I've seen it before, there was once a 8 or 4 million bounty for catching a record breaking bass, in which case they retracted that bounty after Dottie was caught.. I wonder how they found out it was foul hooked, I have to be honest that I prob wouldn't had mentioned it :-/ Over the record or not, its not an attractive fish, wonder what it ate and how, that thing doesn't look like it could swim to fast. Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 8, 2011 Global Moderator Posted February 8, 2011 When the guys caught it they admitted it was foul hooked and I believe there was people on the bank watching them also so there wouldn't have been much of a chance to fib about where it was hooked. Lake Dixon is stocked with trout regularly they say and I'm sure Dottie ate more than her fair share of them. She was also reported to be busting at the seams with eggs when she was caught. Quote

I actually wish they didn't either. It would have been great to have that as the record and CA is the only state I know of that has that "hooked inside the mouth" law. Quote
InLikeFinz Posted February 8, 2011 Posted February 8, 2011 2 1/2 to 3 lbs .....hey that was my guess. Quote

JamesH Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I am blown away by the number of people that seem to still not know about the Dottie story. It was the first BIG news in like 20 years in a sport that doesn't get that much BIG news. At the time I was just a guy fished once a month maybe and I read the whole story and watched all the videos. Quote
Pa Angler Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 God Bless Dottie may she rest in peace. Tight Lines Pa Angler Quote

No, it would not have been legal. Foul hooked fish in CA must be immediately released, and do not count. IGFA defers to local governing bodies. Quote

I'm pretty sure ALL states have that rule when you are sight fishing for bass, if not add VA to the list NY does not. Only intentionally foul hooked fish are to be released. Trout and salmon are another story, they have to be hooked in the mouth. Quote
