Fish Chris Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Okay, so about 3 1/2 years ago, I bought a boat cover for my 14ft aluminum. It's been a great cover.... But 3 1/2 years of sun, rain, freezing, and cooking temps, had really started to break it down. It was failing at the corners, then developed a small tear out in the center. So, first really nice thing was, I called Cabela's, and although they had updated to an all new computer system 1 year ago, they were still able to contact a place that was in charge of all of their old data. Within minutes, they called me back, gave me the exact model # that I had ordered, and, they even still had it in stock ! Cool ! So I reordered it right then and there. Now, as far as warranties go, I assumed that it had a 3, or maybe 4 year warranty, so since it had been such a good cover, I wasn't going to sweat a few more months, even if it were good for it. So, I get my new cover, and the first thing I see when I opened the box was 7 year warranty ! Whoa ! Now wait a minute ! That makes a difference ! I called Cabela's and told them the situation. The girl told me, "No problem. Just put the old, failing boat cover, in the box from your new one. And, you can even use the return shipping lable that came with the new one, in case their was a problem" ! How cool is that ? So, I did exactly that. This morning, about 3 weeks after I sent back the old failing boat cover, I got a credit added back to my account for $159.99 I've always loved Cabela's anyway.... and Lord knows they will get that $159 back... AND a LOT more ! But that was just too cool ! Peace, Fish Quote

MonarkMcfaster Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 Thats great!! I had ordered some seats from them and one of them had been cut with a box cutter, The knife was still laying in the seat!! I called and talked to them and explained, They shipped a second and it was the same way. I called back and they next day'd me a new seat. It was a hassle at first but they made it right so like you, I have been a customer because of it. Quote
Blue Streak Posted January 15, 2011 Posted January 15, 2011 They are the best no doubt about it. Quote
gotarheelz14 Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 Cabelas is a top notch store and their customer service is on par with that of any other store. Quote
Fish Chris Posted January 16, 2011 Author Posted January 16, 2011 Hey Gotarheels, that is the cutest little Westhighland Terrier ever ! Is that yours ? If so, does he go with you on fishing trips ? I just love dogs of almost all breeds... Peace, Fish Quote
BassThumb Posted January 16, 2011 Posted January 16, 2011 That's a good story. I'm not surprised. Cabelas is a class-act business. They have some of the nicest, most knowledgeable, most helpful sales reps I've ever dealt in any sporting goods store. They seem to steer people towards what is best for them rather than the latest hot seller. However, I do wish they would still accept the Shimano Crucial over-the-counter warranty. A lot of people around here use them. I have a broken one right now that I don't know what to do with, my favorite buzzbait rod, a X610MH. I'd even be willing to pay a penalty because the break was my fault. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted January 17, 2011 Global Moderator Posted January 17, 2011 Do they not still do that? I thought Shimano had a lifetime over the counter warranty? I took a crucial spinning rod back to them last year and got a new one no questions asked. Maybe they've changed their policy since then I guess. Quote

I had a warranty issue with a Crucial and BPS didn't want to give me a replacement because I'd had it for over a year. Quote
Shad_Master Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 I'm glad you had a good experience - unfortunately, I cannot say the same. 1) I was getting ready for a club tournament and needed a specific item - as I drive by Cabellas going to and from work every day, I decided to call and see if they had them in stock. The person on the phone said they were out but a truck was comming in on Tuesday and the order showed that they would have some. Arrived at the store on Tuesday and asked about the item - was told they don't carry it - it is a BPS exclusive. So why was I told they were comming on the truck, if it is something they don't carry. 2) A Berkley Rep visited our club one evening and handed out some samples, including a pack with 3 or 4 Power Worms in it - as I headed out to the local pond one evening, I grabbed the sample pack. Bass started exploding on the PW's and I soon ran out - decided to make a run to Cabellas to get more - walked up and down the aisles and could not find any, asked one of the floor walkers and he called a Manager over - Manager says, "Oh, Berkley has stopped making Power Worms - they only make GULP! now" - when I asked who had told him that, he said a name and I said, "Well he's a d**n liar - Berkley will never stop making the product that made them famous" and walked out. I suppose it has to do with what store you are workig with - but it seems like the one near me employs idiots. Quote

Revo_Carrot Stix Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 ...speaking of Cabela's excellent customer service... A buddy of mine was there last weekend to purchase another spinning rod/reel. To my surprise, the counter guys told him that if he buys a reel, he can get a Cabela's-branded rod 1/2 off. Had anyone heard this before? I know they advertise TONS of combo prices but I think that's pretty cool they allow the customer to make the choice. Especially for anglers like my buddy who probably has 50+ combos already. Quote
fishermantony Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 I believe it was Field and Stream that had an article on Cabela's outstanding customer service a few years back. Quote

Christmas of 2009 I got a baitcasting combo from Cabela's with this deal. I told myself that the one thing I wouldn't buy is a new rod or reel, but i couldn't pass up that deal. Quote
WdyCrankbait Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 After reading this story I called up Cabela's to get a fishing catalog. Well, it is 7:41am EST and I think the service rep. picked up my phone call @ Cabela's first ring. NICE, I likes it! Quote
